OnePlus X review

Dear Vlad, I like Android phones, but I don't like carrying around enormous bricks of technology - what's the phone for me?
Pros:
  • Handsome
  • minimalist design
  • Vanishingly small and light for a 5-inch phone
  • Oxygen OS is an attractive take on Android
Cons:
  • Slippery to hold
  • No fingerprint reader or NFC
  • Mediocre camera
  • Lacks proper LTE support in United States

It seemed like a dream on paper: The specs of the company's excellent debut flagship squeezed into a smaller, well constructed shell. In reality, OnePlus has cut some corners here.

OnePlus X (unlocked) review: Beautiful and cheap, with a baffling lack of wide LTE support

The OnePlus X is one of the best budget phones of the year, but its limited LTE support make it a crapshoot for US customers who want high-speed data. I was ready to crown the OnePlus X as one of the best budget smartphones of 2015. Compared to other $250 unlocked devices, it's more powerful than the Motorola Moto G, more beautiful than the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 and runs a more updated OS than the Huawei P8 Lite. With its stylish design and faster speed than its rivals, I was ready to buy into the OnePlus motto to "never settle."
Pros:
  • The inexpensive OnePlus X is fast, beautifully designed and has some nifty customizable features.
Cons:
  • The glossy handset is slippery and has limited compatibility with key LTE bands in the US.

  • Good performance
Cons:
  • Camera isn't great in low light
  • Onyx version is a fingerprint magnet
  • The OnePlus 2 is better value

The OnePlus X may lose some of the OnePlus 2's glamour with no fingerprint scanner and cut-back performance, but it's still a smooth operator that's impressively slim and light, with a sharp, seriously good AMOLED display and a dependable 13-megapixel camera proving highlights.
Pros:
  • Thin and light
  • Strong value
  • Vibrant screen
  • Expandable storage
  • Decent battery life

OnePlus X review

OnePlus had a happy 2014 thanks to its first phone, the OnePlus One , but 2015 was harder, with only a lukewarm reaction to the OnePlus 2 . The Chinese company then brought out the OnePlus X towards the end of the year to see it into 2016 – and it's a phone with an even more attractive price tag...

OnePlus X review: Affordable, but no ace

OnePlus has a formula: make phones affordable. We're huge fans of the OnePlus 2 handset , which effectively carved a new standard by delivering near-flagship quality for a middling £239 price-point. With the OnePlus X, however, the formula has been tweaked.
Pros:
  • Build quality trounces near-priced competition
  • microSD expansion
  • AMOLED screen delivers deep blacks
Cons:
  • Graphical limitations in this configuration
  • no NFC
  • no fingerprint scanner
