Back in the early days of mobile phones, Nokia was one of the most popular brands in the world, with that unforgettable ringtone! Other companies have taken the spotlight in recent years, particularly with the development of the smartphone, but Nokia strikes back with a flagship smartphone of their own - the Nokia 8!

Nokia's Most Powerful Android Smartphone

Nokia is taking on the big players in the smartphone world by using the renowned processing power of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835. One of the key benefits, besides the speed and power to multitask with ease, is prolonged battery life.

One Cool Phone

With everything going on in today's multi-faceted smartphones, heat build-up is common and concerning. The Nokia 8 combats this with a copper cooling pipe with graphite shield to dissipate heat.

Nokia Goes Hollywood

One of the "wow factor" features of the new Nokia 8 is OZO spatial 360° audio, the first time this has been built into any smartphone. This basically captures 3D audio, and is the same technology by Hollywood filmmakers and music producers.

Pretty Cool Cameras Too

The Nokia 8 makes big advances with cameras as well, including Dual-Sight Mode, where the front and back cameras work simultaneously to create split-screen photo and videos. The exceptionally slim cameras are served by world-renowned Zeiss optics, with a better than average 13 megapixels both front and rear.

Don't Forget The PS

Nokia recently updated the operating system to Android 8.0 Oreo, offering the user a full range of Google apps, and regular security and feature updates.

Nokia 8 review: This comeback kid could have been even more

The Nokia 8 isn't disappointing because it's a bad phone. Actually, it's reliable, powerful and has a sharp, beautiful screen. What makes it disappointing is that as the first high-end Nokia phone to ever run Android -- something Nokia phones have only done since the Nokia 6 and its ilk were announced this past March -- it fails to match the serious Android handsets of the day.

Nokia 8 review

I can’t shake the feeling that the Nokia 8 is a disappointment. It just doesn’t deliver on the stuff it claims it can do and lacks the ambition to truly establish itself as a flagship contender. In other words, it is the Arsenal of smartphones. While I can just about forgive the Nokia 8’s all-too-familiar design and so-so battery life, its camera is a real problem. I struggled to take a really great photo with it, and that’s not a something you should be contending with when it comes to a premium smartphone. When the OnePlus 5 does the same (or better) for around £100 less cash, it’s tricky to see what you’re getting here. Bothies alone do not sell a smartphone. So despite its mighty screen, speedy innards and pared back take on Android, this is still a tough phone to recommend.
Pros:
  • Vibrant screen
  • Powerful specs
  • Slick take on Android
Cons:
  • Tricksy camera
  • iPhone ‘inspired’ design
  • Average battery life

Nokia 8 review

Although the Nokia 8 offers some decent specs for the price, it's just not a device that stands out in a crowded market. Build quality should be better and the fingerprint scanner can be a real pain. However, niggles aside, you get a decent screen, core specs and dual-cameras with the already lowered price of £399 making it a bit of a bargain if it ticks your boxes.
