It switches like magic! One second, you're using Nintendo Switch as a home console, and the next you're taking it with you as a portable system. It's totally awesome no matter which way you use it.

HD to handheld

When used as a home console, the Nintendo Switch lets you play a great range of cool games in immersive HD. If you wish to use it in handheld mode, the experience is still pretty stunning thanks to a multi-touch capacitive touch screen which can display a resolution of 1280 x 720.

The joy of Joy-Con

The Joy-Con controllers really give Nintendo Switch an edge on similar gaming devices. One of the best features is HD Rumble; imagine your Joy-Con is a glass. With HD rumble, you'll feel the difference as you add ice cubes and pour water into the glass. This sense of touch goes way beyond the normal vibrations you might have experienced in other controllers. Meanwhile the IR Motion Camera can detect shape, movement, and the distance of objects captured by the camera, adding an extra thrill to your gameplay.

A word to the grownups

Parental controls on Nintendo Switch allows you to manage how your family interacts with the device.

Hours of fun

Excellent battery life means the fun can last for more than six hours, depending on software and usage conditions. For example, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild can be played for about three hours on one charge.

A mountain of memory

There's plenty of memory to play with here. 32GB of internal memory, while storage space can be extended by simply using microSDHC or microSDXC cards.

Nintendo Switch review: Excellent hardware with one roadblock

I have something of a love/hate relationship with Nintendo consoles, especially in recent years. While I grew up with consoles like the Super NES, Nintendo 64, and Gamecube, in the time since then my preference has shifted to Nintendo's handhelds like the DS and the 3DS.
Pros:
  • Nintendo's dream of hybrid gaming fully realized
  • Truly exciting hardware that stands out from the rest
  • Fairly solid launch lineup
  • especially with Zelda
Cons:
  • Accessories are far too expensive
  • Online systems still need a lot of work
  • Launch feels rushed in general

Nintendo Switch Review

The Nintendo switch is a powerful hand-held Console compared to its predecessors. It surpasses the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS in every way. Although as a home console, it lacks the power that the 3-year-old PS4 and Xbox One has.
Pros:
  • Feels like a premium product
  • Very portable
  • Option to play at home and on-the-go
  • Quick and hassle-free transition from handheld to gaming on the TV
  • Waking it up from Sleep mode is almost instantaneous
  • Decent graphics
Cons:
  • Frame rate issues when docked
  • Joy-Con on its own could be limiting to use
  • Cannot charge Joy-Cons on the Grip
  • Cannot backup files
  • Cannot connect to a wireless headphone

Review: Snake Pass has some great ideas but lacks finesse

Whilst Snake Pass has some highlights, it ultimately fails to connect gameplay and design in one cohesive experience.

So the Nintendo Switch has now been out for over a month and the dust is settling so to speak after one hell of a launch. Indeed, the Nintendo Switch proved to be so popular that Nintendo has had to double the production run on the new console to keep up with demand, with gamers falling over...

  • Innovative design
  • Premium look and feel
  • Attractive price point
Cons:
  • Not as powerful as PS4 or Xbox One
  • Third party support is

Nintendo Switch Review

However, if Nintendo leaves you completely cold, and the idea of taking your games away from the TV or monitor and out into the real world isn't for you, you probably won't enjoy the Switch.
