A real little gem of a lens. Dirt cheap to buy. Excellent, sharp, punchy pictures. Really surprising for a lens this inexpensive. It is light, compact and could easily be used as your all around standard lens.

This lens is kind of an odd duck. It is the equivalent of a ff 60 macro in dx format. There are a couple of positive attributes it has going for it - good flat field, excellent sharpness from 2.8 on, small, light, and focusses pretty close, and really very affordable.
Pros:
- Sharp wide open
- good contrast
- close focus
Cons:
- DX only

Great Detail at Close Range
I recently purchased this Lens for the purpose of capturing small objects at close range. Right out of the box the first few images that I took were astounding. Although it doesn't have zoom feature, it will however focus automatically and I knew this when I purchased it.

Where have you been all my life
This lens is a winner...much, much more than I bargained for. If you love macro and also the ability to shoot with a 40 mm lens...YOU WILL LOVE this lens. Outstanding for Nikon...and an excellent price. Shoot like the pros with this small wonder. You will be amazed at the results.

Superb Versatile Lens
This amazingly inexpensive diminutive lens is capable of bitingly sharp and gorgeously rendered images that you might expect from a lens costing 4x as much as this one…and don't always get.

40 mm works fine.
The only thing I have found that is a bit on the neg side is the sun shade doesn't fit as tight as I would like, but it isn't something to cause me to not buy this lense,That's for sure.
Pros:
- Durable
- Easily Interchangeable
- Fast / accurate auto-focus
- Lightweight
- Rugged

Some of us simply need to focus very, very closely to the subject, and for us the 35mm 1.8 DX will never quite do the trick. That's why God and Nikon pooled their resources and made the Nikkor 40mm f/2.8.

A mini marvel
I wanted a small prime lens to go with my D7100. I thought about the 35mm 1.8 but in the end chose the 40mm 2.8 Micro because it has macro capability and I rather fancied being able to take some macro photographs occasionally.
Pros:
- Durable
- Great Features
- Great Picture Quality
- Lightweight
- Simple Controls
- Well Built
