Nikon AF-S DX Micro-Nikkor 40mm f/2.8G
At its asking price, the image quality that the Nikon AF-S DX Micro-Nikkor 40mm f/2.8G ($279.95) delivers is staggering. It's a macro lens with a slightly longer than standard-angle field of view, life-size magnification at its closest focus distance, and excellent image quality.

This lens is kind of an odd duck. It is the equivalent of a ff 60 macro in dx format. There are a couple of positive attributes it has going for it - good flat field, excellent sharpness from 2.8 on, small, light, and focusses pretty close, and really very affordable.

- DX only

A real little gem of a lens. Dirt cheap to buy. Excellent, sharp, punchy pictures. Really surprising for a lens this inexpensive. It is light, compact and could easily be used as your all around standard lens.

takes amazing photos showing lots of detail. the only con is when take a breath it can move the camera so some can come out blurred. its very lightweight compared to other lenses.

Lens is the most important part of the camera. Without which taking photos will be impossible. Proper selection of the lens is must to get extremely good results out of your efforts. Once my lens of Nikon camera got damaged, I had to replace it with a new one. And this selection was a hard one.

Nikon 40mm f/2.8G DX AF-S Micro Nikkor review by zanxion72
First, the 50mm 1.8 D had replaced my 18-105 on my Nikon D90. I was very pleased with it, being fast, sharp, and providing me with better image quality than my 18-105. Then I had tried the 35mm G and this. I was amazed with both of them.
Pros:
- Great sharpness even from wide open
- virtually unlimited range of focus
Cons:
- It gets really close for 1:1 macro
- but that's o.k

I recieved this product from Future Shop in amazing time. The one and only negative comment I do have is about the packaging. If they had used a smaller box it would have been delivered to my mailbox and I would not have had to go and pick it up the next day from the post office, but it was worth...

Great lens
This is a great lens to have as it is just as good as the other portrait lenses in the same price category, like the 35mm and the 50mm, but it opens up a whole new realm of photography with the Macro feature. Once you get into it, it's so much fun and the possibilities become endless.
