Nikkor AF-S DX Micro 40mm f/2.8G
The AF-S DX Micro-Nikkor 40mm f/2.8G is the most affordable macro lens for Nikon's range of DX format DSLRs, and as an AF-S model, it'll autofocus on any Nikon body. Yes you read this right: it's even cheaper than any lens capable of 1:1 magnification from Sigma or Tamron.

Great NIKKOR lens for the money.
I'd been looking to get a new lens for my Nikon D80. I already had two others, a 28-80 and a 75-300. I wanted something that I could get good close-ups. The AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G is what I ended up with and I couldn't be happier. The picture quality is excelent.

great lens, great price
The depth of field is a fundamental property of the lens and f-stop. The manufacturer has little control over this, but prospective buyers should not be surprised to see some blurry images. In some circumstances it is necessary to use manual focus because the autofocus may select the wrong plane.
Pros:
- Flawless autofocus
- Manual focus very easy
- Lightweight
- Short overall length
Cons:
- Narrow depth of field

Instant Love
I've been a a photographer for 9 years so far, and I really loved my 50mm I owned. I didn't think any lens would out-do that lens. I was wrong. I bought this micro lens as my first micro lens to just play around with and do some fun macro work away from my business photography.

Lens Test: Nikon 40mm f/2.8G AF-S DX Micro
In both capability and cost, this close-up lens is a gift to DX-format (APS-C-sensor) Nikon shooters. A full-frame equivalent of 60mm, it delivers a lot for its meager $280 street price: 1:1 macro shooting, a fast f/2.8 aperture, metal lensmount, and great optics.

Great DX Macro / Micro for Nikon owners
I recently purchased the Nikon AF-S DX Micro Nikkor 40mm F/2.8G and found it to be a well manufactured great performer for DX Cameras. No obvious distortion was evident across the focal range and excelent sharpness under maximum camera image zoom.
