Awesome Lens Best All in One

Pros: Focuses quicker than the default 18-55 Has a nice aperture for a jack of all trades (3.5) Feels sturdy due to its metal and glass build For $299 you get both the 18-55 and the 55-200 (well minus those 60), but for the price better aperture where they both interlace.

I gave away my old worked off Nikon 18-200, and needed to buy another basic lens. I read good info about the Nikon 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S DX VR and bought it to use with my Nikon D7100.

Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR ($499.95) is the company's replacement for its older AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR zoom. It's priced a bit higher, but covers a longer zoom range.

Sharp through most of range; 7.8x zoom range; Optically stabilized; Fairly compact

Loads of distortion; Edge performance could be better; Hood not included

Bought the 18-140mm Nikkor lens as a replacement for my Nikkor 18-105mm, which I dropped and broke; Paired with a Nikon D90 body; The 18-140mm is an outstanding lens at this price and a surprising step up in quality from the 18-105.

No bad points I can find; It's a little bigger and heavier than the Nikon 18-105mm, but that's more of an observation than a criticism

Good value lens

This lens is used on a D7200. I like the way this lens focuses, It finds focus fast and does not hunt. I like the sharpness of the images. I like the light weight. I use this lens primarily for wildlife photography. I works ok for large birds but does not have enough reach for small birds.

A great walking around lens

I bought this lens as a kit lens with a D7500, and think it's a great walking around lens. Yes, it's bigger than the 18-55. When I shot the 18-55, I was always wishing it had a little more reach. The 18-140 focuses quickly and has pretty good reach. I've been happy with the images.

Really wanted to like this lens

Ive been trying to like this lens for a couple years. It ended up on my spare camera that I keep in the back of my car and rarely ever use. Its just too soft at all focal lengths and aperatures compared with any other lenses in by bag.

Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

A consumer lens with a zoom ratio of almost 8:1 is never going to be as good in the optical department as primes or short-range professional zooms, and the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR certainly doesn't challenge that paradigm.
