Xbox One review: is the original Xbox One worth your money

Welcome to T3's official Xbox One review. And the Microsoft Xbox One doesn't just want to beat the Sony PS4, it wants to be your 'input one' entertainment device. Out of all of the participants in the forthcoming next-generation console war, the Xbox One has had the most to prove.

Robust internal specs; Oodles of potential; Improved controls

Hulking brute of a machine; Lack of killer launch titles; Eye-watering price tag

Microsoft Xbox One

As ambitious a games console as there's ever been, but the Xbox One doesn't yet live up to its enormous potential The Xbox One is a hugely ambitious console, and in time it might realise its potential via software updates. Right now it's just a very good games console.

Runs quietly; Strong line-up of launch games; Kinect is amazing in many ways; Impressive multi-tasking

Flaws hamper every flagship feature; Big; ugly box; Not the most accomplished Blu-ray player; Some games still run at 720p

Xbox's don't work

Excellent price for Xbox One Elite but when my son tried to play a game on it for his birthday nothing happened. Got in touch with the company wanting exchange and they just said get in touch with Microsoft as its under warranty, not good enough.

This system is superior to the PS4

This system is superior to the PS4. Its ease of use, comfortability and companionship are not comparable to machines before it. It can only be surpassed by the X-Box Two. I cannot wait for anything else Microsoft ejects to us grateful consumers!

Microsoft Xbox One Review

If there's one word that defined Microsoft's approach with its Xbox One when it launched in 2013, it was "disruptive." The new hardware challenged our notion of what a video game console could and should be, for better and for worse.

Powerful OS is user-friendly and built for seamless multitasking; Kinect v2's well-implemented voice recognition is a new "button" for your controller; Improved internal hardware translates to smooth game performance; Cable box interconnectivity is great for TV watchers

Limited; occasionally non-intuitive voice commands; Bulky; hefty form factor; Snap same-screen multitasking is debatably useful

Microsoft Xbox One

If you want a pure game system, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 are in a dead heat. As a media streamer , though, especially if you subscribe to cable or satellite service, the Xbox One is a better bet.

New interface is intuitive and accessible; Powerful hardware; Incorporates live television with OneGuide, HDMI passthrough, and USB tuner supports; Limited Xbox 360 backward compatibility

Kinect integration and voice commands have been de-emphasized to the point of almost being completely dropped; Current backward compatibility list is very small

Xbox One Console: An Entertainment Center. Great Features, Great Interface, But No Games

First and foremost, the best features of the Xbox One are undoubtedly the voice and gesture control. Once I had calibrated them and gone through the tutorials, they became immensely useful.

Voice control; gesture control; multitasking (picture in picture called "snapping"); television integration

Lack of games; No DLNA client; slightly odd controller

Now finally the Xbox One landed on the shelf, this is my second XO and I like that they stopped taking the piano lacquered top as a then always becomes completely scratched. I really appreciate the extended memory of 1 TB, dream scenario where 2 TB, but it is a good start.

Not perfect, but very good. Time will only make it better.

I got my Xbox One on launch day, so I've had about a while now to play with it and find out what I think about the system. It is an excellent follow-up to the Xbox 360, but not without some minor flaws. *What I like:* [+] The dashboard is integrated WAY better than the Xbox 360 and PS3.
