The Logitech TV Cam HD brings Logitech into a market that is highly desired, but yet poorly served: Skype on the big screen. It is obvious that a lot of people would love using Skype on their TV, and the proliferation large and cheap LCD TVs only makes this idea more pervasive.
Since the telephone first rose to prominence there has been chatter about the video phone. BT tried it years ago before there was even broadband - and before there was even ISDN - and it was always a flop.
Superb quality; easy to use; zoom and move feature; sound is brilliant
Quite expensive; big and a bit ugly; uses electricity all the time
Our Granddaughter was born in November and we were excited to see an ad for this new TV Webcam-perfect Christmas gifts. We have been thrilled with the quality. We look forward to seeing the milestones as our grandbaby grows.
Unless this is a one-off problem, I was able to get 5mbs on my laptop without an issue in the hospital with 5 bars. Yet, this device was not able to connect to the internet well enough to even complete the setup.
Great potential for keeping in touch with loved ones
Signal was excellent with laptop but too weak for this HD IP Cam
Usually Skype requires you to sit at a computer. Logitech's TV Cam HD allows you to stay comfortably seated on your couch or comfy chair: it has been designed to work with a television set. It works very well, though we had some nits to pick as well.
Are you one of those people that can't stand it when other people one-up you on gear? Are you someone that has a terminal case of upgraditus? Do you stand in line for hours just to get the latest iDevice and then run to work to show it off to all your jealous friends?
The Logitech TV Cam brings great-looking 720p HD video calling to your HDTV, but requires a $300 Logitech Revue set-top box and a fast Internet connection.
Great looking HD video (720p at 30 frames per second); Can call Mac and Windows PCs; Logitech Vid HD software is easy to use
No optical zoom, no panning or tilting; No 1080p calling; Not currently compatible with other Google TV products; Logitech Vid HD software is not as feature packed as Skype 5
The QuickCam Zoom is one of Logitech's newer cameras, at a suggested price of $79. This blue-and-white camera looks like a large golf ball with a plastic visor that can be lowered over the lens for privacy.
Easy to install; Cool design; Easy to use
Low picture quality; Low video quality; Win 98 Driver issues
Good quality, easy to install. The camera and the microphone both work well. I am disappointed with the width of field that the camera is able to pick up. It is OK, but not near the width that I was expecting/hoping for.
