The Kobo Glo HD is an excellent e-reader at a very appealing price point, although as always there's a bit of regrettable vendor lock-in at play. e-readers as a category are in an interesting spot, because there's so very many other devices you can use to read short or long books of any type.

Kobo Glo HD

You could say the Glo HD is Kobo's answer to Amazon's Kindle Voyage , and you wouldn't be far off. After all, it's the only other ebook reader to sport a high-resolution 300ppi display. But the devices differ significantly when it comes to price.

Sharp display; Relatively affordable; Lightweight; Rubber design is good for grip

No expandable storage; Long boot-up time from sleep

Kobo Glo HD review

The Kobo Glo HD is better than the Kindle Voyage . Firstly, it has more pixels. Its six-inch screen boasts an unbeatable 300 ppi. Secondly, its lightweight design makes it the easiest ereader yet to hold in one hand.

Kobo Glo HD Review

You could say the Glo HD is Kobo's answer to Amazon's Kindle Voyage ($199.99 at Amazon) , and you wouldn't be far off. After all, it's the only other ebook reader to sport a high-resolution 300ppi display. But the devices differ significantly when it comes to price. For $129.99, the Kobo the Glo HD is far less expensive than the $199 Voyage. Sure, Amazon has a better ebook store, and the Voyage has a more-striking design, but for those unwilling to spend the extra $70, the Glo HD is a worthy alternative. Design and Display The Glo HD measures 6.2 by 4.5 by 0.4 inches (HWD) and weighs 6.4 ounces, making it roughly the same size as the Kindle Voyage, which measures 6.4 by 4.5 by 0.3 inches (HWD) and weighs 6.3 ounces. The front is covered in black plastic, while the back is coated in a tough, textured rubber. Tiny indentations allow for a better grip than you get with the Kindle Voyage's smooth underside. It's comfortable to hold with one hand for long periods of time, and it's jus...

The Kobo Glo HD is a solid ebook reader with an unassuming, lightweight design and clear, paper-like display that ought to satisfy users looking for an affordable alternative to Amazon's Kindle Voyage.

The Kobo Glo HD is the second ebook reader behind the Kindle Voyage to use E Ink's highest resolution 300 pixel-per-inch Carta screen, and the Glo HD comes at a much lower price.

Kobo Glo HD review

It's not flash like the Kobo Aura HD , it's not next-gen like the Kindle Voyage and it's not water resistant like the Kobo H2O . However, the Kobo Glo HD aces one of the most important aspects of an ereader: the screen.

Super-sharp screen; Grippy back; Good battery life

Kobo store lags behind Amazon; Not all that pretty; is it; A bit slower than the top Kindles

Kobo Glo HD review

Kobo has worked its way through the pack to become the clear competitor to Amazon's dominance in eBook readers. For a long time, Amazon not only had the best range of books and the lowest prices, it also had great hardware at competitive prices - a tough act to follow.

Kobo Glo HD e-reader gives Kindle Voyage a run for its money

There are plenty of reasons to like Kobo , but the most compelling may be the simple fact that the company isn't Amazon . As chief competitors like Barnes & Noble and Sony have faded or altogether disappeared from the market, the plucky Canadian company (granted, one currently owned by a giant...
