Killzone: Shadow Fall (PS4) Review

Let's get something out of the way real quick: I'm awful at FPS games. I mean, just terrible. I grew up in an era when a "shooter" meant you held the Nintendo Zapper in your hand, or pumped quarters into a machine that let you use the revolver on coin-op Hogan's Alley.

Killzone: Shadow Fall

The long wait is over and we get our very first taste of next-generation gaming, with Sony's PS4 flagship title, Killzone: Shadow Fall. Having seen the game in action both during the E3 and at Gamescom, we were more than eager to finally go through the entire package.
Pros:
  • It's jaw-dropping gorgeous
  • has a really unique and fun implementation of the touchpad
  • and
  • like its predecessors
  • has a great multiplayer experience that includes customizable matches
Cons:
  • Forced script
  • unintuitive objectives
  • padded length in the final missions thanks to way too many busy-work tasks
  • and an ungodly frustrating final boss

Killzone: Shadow Fall Review

Killzone has always had a message hidden in the battles and bloodshed on other worlds, shining a light on our own struggles and the futility of war. The developers at Guerrilla Games have drawn from world wars, past and present, to fuel the fires of conflict between Vektan and Helghan forces, but my...

Killzone: Shadow Fall

Very few games have had a history as colorful as Killzone . Originally touted as a Halo killer for the PlayStation 2, the game had no chance to live up to the hefty standards given to it. It was an average shooter, though that's not what was expected of it, and was therefore considered a flop.

Killzone 4: Shadow Fall

Killzone: Shadow Fall is a beautiful-looking game and the perfect visual showcase for the PS4's hardware. The DualShock 4 controller support gives us a promising look at how other PS4 games can embrace the touchpad and speaker features as well. As shooters go, it's a solid effort.
Pros:
  • Stunning in 1080p HD
  • Great shooting mechanics
  • Interesting DualShock 4 support
Cons:
  • Ambitious storyline not perfectly executed
  • Easy to get lost in the more open levels
  • Average voice dialogue

  • unclear gameplay objectives
  • and god-like enemy AI quickly sap the fun from this by-the-numbers FPS

Killzone: Shadow Fall Review

At times, the Killzone franchise has felt like a totally unnecessary set of games, purely created as an attempt to rival Halo, then continued more out of spite than success. Does " Killzone: Shadow Fall " fall into the same traps or revitalise a tired series?

Review: Killzone Shadow Fall

Set on the planet Vekta, some 30 years after the events of The Second Extrasolar War (Killzone 3). The conflicting factions of the Vektans and Helghast must co-exist in a somewhat cold war scenario.

Killzone: Shadow Fall review: through the eyes of a newcomer

Prior to the release of Killzone: Shadow Fall on PlayStation 4, Guerilla Games' Steven Ter Heide, game director, called it a great entry point to the franchise. For gamers new to PlayStation family, this game was supposed to present a "fresh start" for the franchise as most of the characters and...

Killzone: Shadowfall Review

If Guerrilla Games was tasked with the simple objective of creating a showpiece game for the PlayStation 4, they've done so. It offers a taste of what is possible on the new hardware from a graphical fidelity perspective.
