Blazing Fast!

Although more expensive than some of the other SSDs on the market, I feel the price is warranted. I've owned OCZ drives and both of them failed within the first 6 months. I also own a Samsung, which is in the same price range as the Intel and have not had any problems with that drive either.

This thing is "off the chain" fast; I'll never own a traditional hard drive for anything but storage again; I can't say enough good things about this drive; It's fast and works; Installation was a piece of cake and it took the Windows 7 Image I created to migrate the date without issue.

Size; At 120GB, this drive is small; But SSDs aren't really designed for storage and are best when used as boot drives; This is perfect for a client / file server environment, or when you pair it with a 2 or 3TB traditional HDD

Intel 520 Series 60GB SSD review

Intel's latest batch of SSDs, the 520 Series, offers a variety of different capacities, but the 60GB is the smallest on offer. That doesn't sound like much, but it's more than enough for an installation of Windows and some key applications, which makes a smaller drive is a route to the speed of an...

Class-leading performance; Much improved over Intel SSD 510 series; Special firmware exclusive to Intel

Slightly pricey; Below average IOPS performance on Iometer

Intel SSD 520 Series (240GB)

When Intel released its 510 Series solid-state drive (SSD) a year ago, it used a controller not that the giant company had created itself but rather one from Marvell. Intel hasn't gone back to keeping it "all in the family" with its newest SSD, the 520 Series, but it has chosen SandForce instead-and...

Excellent performance; Covered by five-year warranty

More expensive; but not significantly faster; than competing drives

Intel's 520 Series SSD is undoubtedly a good match for any high-end PC; it's lightning-quick in various scenarios, and if you're coming from a traditional hard disk, it'll provide a jolt in performance that few other components can offer.

Intel is looking to SandForce to provide it with a performance-class SSD in the Intel SSD 520 Series 240GB. It changed tack about a year ago and started using third-party controller chips in its consumer class solid state drives (SSDs).

Review The rumour mill was working overtime throughout 2011 with suggestions that Intel was considering forsaking the Marvell controllers it had used for its previous generation of consumer SSDs, the 510 series.

As well as its main line in PC processors, Intel now offers an expanding selection of solid-state drives (SSDs). The Intel 520 Series sits near the top of the company's range, promising sequential read/write performance of 550 and 520MBps, and up to 80k write IOPS.

With our test unit for the Intel 520 series 240GB SSD came a full upgrade kit as well. You have a 3.5-inch bay with multiple screws and a molex-to-SATA power cable. Manuals and software mini-disc are also part of the package.
