HTC One A9 review: This is not Android's iPhone

Companies in the mobile industry have been shortening product life cycles more in the last two years than ever before. Blink and you'll probably see a new flagship from Samsung, Huawei, Sony, or another hardware manufacturer launch.

HTC One A9 – Review

A bit of history first, and perhaps a personal viewpoint from myself. Back in 2002 I handled my first HTC smartphone. It was branded up as an Orange SPV and it kick-started this entire website.

Let me be blunt. If I lost my iPhone a week ago and needed a new one, I would buy the HTC One A9. It looks great, and upon first glance , works pretty great, too. But I didn't lose my iPhone, and the A9 is now more expensive than I thought it was.
Pros:
  • It's a very pretty phone
  • It works ok, but mostly it's very pretty
Cons:
  • The underperforming processor is noticeably deficient
  • Android phones are famous for a little bit of lag, especially when laden with heavy skinning, but it's that much worse when trying to be an iPhone replacement
  • Also, despite being better than its big brother, the camera has room for improvement

HTC One A9 review

What happened to you, HTC? You used to be big and bright, the world your oyster, so to speak. But now you're sipping fifty cent beer at the corner dive, yelling at passersby about that time you were elected class president in 1987. I get it. It's hard sometimes. There are lots of other people...

HTC One S

Because it lacks a microSD card slot, the HTC One S isn't a perfect smartphone. But you will love it nonetheless.

All the gear but no idea phone

Looks great, loads of great features, really easy to use BUT........shocking, battery terrible, reception terrible, cuts you off, flips between apps all on its own, I have it as a business phone and we've just binned the lot.

Good phone, but the seller ripped me off

Good phone, but the seller ripped me off. The audio jack did not work, the sim tray could not close and it had a bunch of scratches. I would not recommend anyone to buy from this seller.

Review: HTC One S

HTC has been one of the more prolific players in the Android phone market of late. But so far, the Taiwanese manufacturer hasn't quite solidified its desired reputation as a beloved premium handset maker, up with the likes of Apple, Samsung and Motorola.
Pros:
  • Super thin and light with an attractive unique style
  • No problems with call quality or battery life
  • Premium materials add an upscale feel and 4G speeds are fast, when you can get a 4G signal
  • Photo software is top-notch
  • 25GB of free storage from Dropbox with purchase
Cons:
  • Protruding camera lens is begging for scuffs and scratches
  • Display is pixelated, not high definition
  • Beats Audio doesn't make anything sound better, just louder
  • And while it has Beats Audio technology, it doesn't come with Beats earbuds

HTC One S review

The HTC One S is a decent smartphone that manages to retain the One X's top-end feel despite packing a less impressive processor and screen.
Pros:
  • Solid metal design
  • runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich
  • decent screen
  • reasonable camera
Cons:
  • Average battery
  • Sense feels cluttered
  • no micro-SD card slot or HDMI input
