HTC One (M8) review

HTC has found itself in a peculiar position. After releasing what was considered to be a fantastic Android device, the HTC One, it still finds itself lagging behind Samsung in terms of brand recognition and as well as market share.

HTC One M8 Harman Kardon Edition review: Hyped Harman Kardon audio feature only amounts to spin

Editors' note: This review shares many sections with the standard HTC One M8 review , as the devices are almost identical.

Unless you need a great deal on earbuds, there’s no reason to buy the HTC One M8 Harman Kardon Edition.

The HTC One M8 HKE's sumptuous aluminum body makes a beautiful background for this top-flight smartphone's brilliant 5-inch display. It runs on a powerful quad-core processor and Android KitKat, the stereo speakers deliver excellent sound, and the depth-sensing camera brings a ton of useful features. It comes with premium Harman Kardon earbuds.

The One M8 HKE’s special audio prowess is overrated and slathers on the bloatware extra thickly. The One M8’s battery is not user-removable. The phone's sealed chassis is not water-resistant, and the One M8's photos look less sharp than competitors'.

HTC One M8 for Windows Phone review: A winning flagship breathes new life into Windows Phone

Editors' note: Due to their similarities, sections of this review have been taken from our review of the original HTC One M8 and HTC One M8 Harman Kardon Edition .

While its camera isn't best-in-class and Windows Phone's underwhelming app selection still stings, the elegant and sophisticated HTC One M8 is an enticing alternative to Nokia models.

Verizon's HTC One M8 brings premium style to the Windows Phone franchise, has a brilliant 1080p display and excellent audio speakers, and it's powered by a robust quad-core processor.

The Windows Phone OS has a smaller app market, the handset's battery is nonremovable, and like the Android M8s before it, photos aren't as sharp as those from its competitors.

HTC One M8 with Windows Review

The Windows Phone version of the HTC One M8 has great battery life, a high-end design, and great specs. But it also comes with Windows Phone's flaws. If you want a Windows Phone, this is the best.

Same great specs as Android version; High-end metal design; Longer battery life than Android version

Limited app selection; Somewhat slippery to hold; Only at Verizon

HTC One M8 for Windows review: just what it says on the tin

Will the One M8 for Windows be enough, on its own, to arrest Windows Phone's current popularity slide ? Certainly not. A lack of beautiful hardware and gorgeous software has never been the platform's problem.

Outstanding industrial design;  Unique media features not available on other Windows Phones;  Unrivaled acoustic experience on speakers;  Best hardware specs available on Windows Phone;  Excellent low-light camera performance

Windows Phone better than ever; but still suffers from usability gaps;  Slightly buggier app experience;  Camera resolution lower than any other flagship;  Ecosystem still limited relative to competition

HTC One M8: One direction

The Android scene is a crowded one with new devices in various shapes and sizes flooding the market everyday. It's not easy for one model to stand out but HTC's One M8 comes close.

Solid, premium build; loud and clear BoomSound speakers; amazing front camera

A little ?-overweight; main camera is only 4-megapixels; heats up easily

An excellent phone which won't disappoint

I had an HTC before switching to a Samsung and regretted it from the moment I started using it. The HTC works so much better than any other phone I have used, and looks and feels magnificent too. And I don't feel the need to be driven to camping out on the street overnight just to get a phone.

HTC One M8

We were big fans of last year's HTC One, and the firm has followed that with another great smartphone in the HTC One M8. It has a larger screen, smooth performance and a largely vanilla Android user interface, a feature we appreciate in Android smartphones.

Nice design; great screen; slick performance; largely vanilla Android user interface; decent battery life; 128GB microSD support

No fingerprint sensor/IP67 certification; Blinkfeed can be annoying; average camera; Nothing

HTC One M8 review

The HTC One M8's robust but elegant design encases a host of top-end components and key productivity features that make it one of the best Android smartphones currently available.

Solid design; powerful performance; decent battery; great screen; useful software additions; Duo Camera

Camera's low megapixel count hampers UltraPixel technology; only available with 16GB of storage
