Google's new mid-range phones are very welcome but is it worth spending more on the bigger model Find out in our Pixel 3a XL review.
The Google Pixel 3a was introduced as Google's new mid-range smartphone, available as the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL, with the 3a offering a 5.6inch screen and 3000mAh battery, and the 3a XL offering a larger 6inch screen, and a 3700mAh battery.
12MP performs extremely well; Easy to take great photos; Impressive Night Sight mode; Stock version of Android; Great value for money; RAW available
Lacks a "Pro" or manual mode; No MicroSD card memory slot
The premium smartphone category has changed over the years. We now have high-end phones with prices tipping over the 1 lac price point then there are 'affordable flagships' which are not as pricey, but offer high- end features.
Its design may not be head-turning, but the Google Pixel 3a XL packs a punch internally with a potentially great camera for the price point. It's the best of Google in a phone, at a lower price tag.
Headphone jack returns; Great camera potential; Slick; stock Android
Design is a little bland
Google's is undeniably a good phone, known for its clean and efficient "Android as Google intended" user experience and astounding camera. But prices start at a fairly steep £739/$799 and, as it's transpired, this has contributed to underwhelming take-up in the eyes of its creators.
We spent some time with the device and here are our first impressions....
In fact, that's kind of the story of the new Google Pixel 3a XL. In general, its a far more compelling product than perhaps you might surmise from the sum of its parts. With the exception of Google's fantastic camera performance, there's no one area where the Pixel 3a XL really stands-out.
Great price point; Clean; unadulterated Android 9; Fantastic camera performance; Excellent battery life; Headphone jack; Solid OLED display
Performance is underwhelming; No wireless charging; No IP water resistance rating
Google forayed into the mid-range segment with Pixel 3a XL (spec-wise at least) in the Indian market. This line of smartphones came into existence since the search engine giant found it challenging to sell their premium Pixel 3 series. Do you think a smartphone like Pixel 3a XL at Rs.
We don't review mid- and lower-end devices nearly as often as we'd like to here, but the Pixel 3a was an interesting device to have put through the mill. In terms of design, there's nothing really exciting about the Pixel 3a XL.
