Amazing phone. Great battery life and I use it constantly. All the new features work great, and despite what people thought, the notch doesn't bother me at all

Google's is undeniably a good phone, known for its clean and efficient "Android as Google intended" user experience and astounding camera. But prices start at a fairly steep £739/$799 and, as it's transpired, this has contributed to underwhelming take-up in the eyes of its creators.

We spent some time with the device and here are our first impressions....

The Pixel 3a is Google's attempt to return to the affordable premium smartphone category. After sunsetting the Nexus program, Google moved on to the ultra-high-end segment with the launch of the original Pixel back in 2016.

Its design may not be head-turning, but the Google Pixel 3a XL packs a punch internally with a potentially great camera for the price point. It's the best of Google in a phone, at a lower price tag.

Design is a little bland

The best thing about the new Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL is just how similar they are to the full-price Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL respectively. It would take more than a casual glance to distinguish the two new phones from their more powerful siblings, and Google is very proud of this.
