God of War is the best game of this generation without a doubt. It takes a big risk and mixes up its past formula for something fresh that works and makes me wish the previous games played like this, it also has the best story and cinematic experience I’ve seen in a game.

God of War is the perfect trifecta of innovative gameplay, gorgeous visuals and engrossing narrative. It’s a game that grabbed me from its opening moments and had me holding my breath for almost 30 hours.

For a time, God of War was arguably Sony’s strongest intellectual property. With each of three main games, Sony Santa Monica was able to up the ante and wow us with the ever-increasing scale.

It isn't perfect, since nothing is, but came as close as you could get in a given genre. The new leader to beat.

God of War forges a new identity and surpasses even its most acclaimed predecessors.

Rare is the game that's confident: uncompromising in its identity, unyielding in its cohesion and sense of self. Rarer still is the game that stays genuine and true while being so informed by its contemporaries.

This is a skull-smashing story about making mistakes and taking responsibility. While hacking and slashing their enemies, a father and son build bonds of love and loyalty. God of War is a minor masterpiece.

Overall, I feel as though God of War breathes new life into the franchise and while I don't view it as a defining masterpiece in the action-adventure genre; it provides a memorable experience and strengthens the series as a whole.
