Great scanner, but not the best for lots of flat documents, for that use the Fujitsu iX500

I bought this as well as the Fujitsu iX500, and pretty much love them both. I am digitizing my life just recently being retired. I want to get rid of all my hard copies and free myself up to see the world. Having both of these I can pretty much scan anything other than some oversized photographs.

poor quality, see comments

scanned material from a new book, without any distortion of the pages, and on multiple attempts, were so poor, that, one has to geuss at the words to read it! fujitsu s-1500, on the other hand, is simply superb in quality of the scanned material

Not worth the money

If your going to purchase this scanner be prepared to spend hours editing scanned books. Also they force you to use their software, which is clunky and slow. The auto page turning feature also didn't always work, so I had to constant go back to my MacBook and click continue or click the scan button...

Pros

I'm starting with a 3 out of 5 stars, but my review may become higher with more practice. If you're scanning a book, you need to be quite vigorous in your hand-waving to ensure that the device knows the page has been turned.

Simple setup and reasonable software

A tiny bit tricky for 'page-turn' detection

Fujitsu ScanSnap SV600

The Fujitsu ScanSnap SV600 ($795) is an unusual scanner . Built with an overhead scan unit. It literally offers a different perspective than a flatbed, looking down at a scan area instead of up through a glass platen.

Uses an overhead scanner, rather than the camera typically found in other similar models; Suitable for scanning documents, books, business cards, photos, 3D objects, and more

When automatic cropping for book pages doesn't work well; adjusting the crop lines can get tedious

Fujitsu ScanSnap SV600

The Good Book scanning - Scan Quality/Speed - Included productivity tools The Bad Price - Space commitment - Problems scanning black documents There are plenty of desktop scanning solutions on the market to add to productivity and cut down on desk clutter.

Already comes with SV600 scanner

This pad is useful. However, the SV600 scanner already comes with one. The felt material eliminates reflective glare from compromising scans, but it quickly becomes covered in dust and lint.

Fujitsu ScanSnap SV600 review

A portable scanner which looks like a desktop lamp.

Accepts single sheet; stapled or bound - up to A3 size; Simple to use; Software de-skews; crops and rotates automatically

Slower than a sheet-fed scanner; Changing settings can be a fiddle; Sensitive to light

Less ideal for archive scan

3 sec to scan one copy, which is great. Smart enough to adjust the page, etc. But I still find there is a long way to go before the quality of the scan can be as good as a camera. Maybe I am asking too much of it.

Fujitsu ScanSnap SV600

Worked very well when scanning an old family heirloom, which had mimeographed sheets.
