Fujifilm may be a small player in the grand scheme of things but they are certainly entertaining us big time here in the lab. While they have a few budget offerings, they are obviously primarily committed to deliver interesting lenses for the "prosumer" segment.

At $999, the XF 16mm f/1.4 is not an easy buy for many photographers, but it offers ample value to those with the funds to make it happen. We were a bit let down by the lack of edge sharpness at wider apertures, but the image quality elsewhere is so good that it easily makes up for it.

The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 16mm F1.4 R WR ($999) carries a premium price, but backs it up with matching performance. The lens covers a wide (24mm in full-frame terms) field of view, opens up all the way to f/1.4 for low-light shooting and blurred backgrounds, and lets you get up close and personal with subjects. It's sharp too, even at the edges of the frame, and offers a better manual focus experience than most mirrorless system lenses.
