Fujifilm GFX 100 review

Even with a handful of small foibles, there's little doubt the GFX 100 is a landmark medium format camera. A hugely impressive level of image quality, underpinned by years of X-series technology, together with the best EVF around, speedy focus, great 4K video and effective image stabilization, make for a dazzling result.

Remarkable detail in images; Big, clear and detailed EVF; Sensor-based I.S. is a huge plus; Very low image noise; AF faster than previous GFX models;

EVF can get in the way of the LCD; Vertical grip design not ideal; Cont. AF can get lost during bursts; Limited lens selection right now; Menu and Q menu don't rotate

FUJIFILM GFX 100 Medium Format Mirrorless Camera (Body Only) - Brand New review

While it's a shame that picture and sound quality haven't been upgraded, the iPhone 13 was great in these regards and the iPhone 14 is, too Excellent display Admirable headphone performance Solid build quality No upgrades to picture or sound Familiar design Notch is still present

Fujifilm GFX 100 review

The GFX 100 is a highly specialized tool, and yet one that Fujifilm has worked on to make as flexible and capable as possible. It offers very high resolution, supported by good glass and image stabilization to let you exploit that resolution far beyond the studio. It's not an all-rounder like some of the high-res full-frame mirrorless cameras can be, but it does things you wouldn't expect of a 100MP medium format camera.

People who need 100MP and top-notch image quality in and out of the studio.;

Anyone needing speed or convenience rather than pushing for the boundaries of attainable image quality;

Fujifilm GFX100 Review

The Fujifilm GFX100 ($9,999.95, body only) is unlike any medium format camera that's come before. It's the first we've seen with on-sensor phase detection focus, a feature that puts it on par with full-frame systems for capturing moving subjects, along with in-body stabilization to curb blur. Its imaging and video capabilities both qualify as incredible—you get 100MP images and 4K using the entire frame width. If you're in the market for a medium format camera, the GFX100 should be at the top of your list, and earns our Editors' Choice. The Medium Format Landscape Medium format has always had a rather nebulous definition, dating back to the film days. The 35mm format was pretty stringent—a 24-by-36mm frame for the most part, panoramic models notwithstanding. But medium format can refer to anything larger than 35mm and smaller than a 4-by-5-inch large format negative; most use 120 format roll film. In the digital world, medium format has settled into two main sensor sizes. Ther...

The Fujifilm GFX100 is, bar none, the best medium format camera on the market today, thanks to an advanced autofocus system and in-body stabilization.

100MP resolution; Sensor nearly twice as large as full-frame; In-body stabilization; Phase detection autofocus; Removable viewfinder; High-quality 4K video; Rugged, all-weather build

Huge file sizes; Vertical shooting grip and controls could feel better; 1/125-second flash sync; Big, bulky lenses; Power-hungry; EVF blocks tilt screen

FUJIFILM GFX 100 Medium Format Mirrorless Camera (Body Only) - Brand New review

More like an iPhone 13S. The generational upgrades for the iPhone 14 are limited to a few subtle changes. At the same time, however, the base price climbs to 800 USD, while the only true innovation happens inside the iPhone 14 Pro series.

excellent OLED display, dust- and waterproof, fast Wi-Fi, wide range of supported frequencies, great camera, very fast performance, good battery life

display limited to 60 Hz, charging rate limited to 20 watts, no macro lens, wide notch

Fujifilm GFX100 review

While reviewing the GFX100, I kept trying to work out who it was actually made for. Super-dedicated landscape photographers, sure – but in today’s web-first world there aren’t many of them around, and even fewer with ten grand to burn. For the vast majority of us, the sheer level of detail here isn’t something we need, especially when the trade-off is a very heavy camera and a very light bank balance. There’s no denying that this is an exceptional camera that takes fantastic images while being refreshingly easy to use, but 99.9 percent of people would be better off with something like Fujifilm’s own X-T3 (around £1350), a fantastic camera at a fraction of the price, or Sony’s 61MP A7R IV (£3500), which promises huge levels of detail in a significantly smaller, lighter and cheaper body.

Produces brilliantly detail-rich shots; Surprisingly user-friendly; Great build quality and battery life;

Hefty in the hand; Lethal on the wallet; 102MP feels like overkill;

FUJIFILM GFX 100 Medium Format Mirrorless Camera (Body Only) - Brand New review

The Apple iPhone 14 isn’t a huge upgrade on the iPhone 13, yet it still is a great phone with a top camera, good battery life and all the iOS benefits.

Clever safety features, Very good battery life, Reliable camera, Fun colours, You’ve got an ageing iPhone: If you’re on an iPhone 11 or older, then the changes here will make a notable difference.

Stuck on a 60Hz display, Minimal differences to the iPhone 13, You’ve got an iPhone 13: The changes from Apple’s previous phone aren’t enough to warrant an upgrade this year.

FUJIFILM GFX 100 Medium Format Mirrorless Camera (Body Only) - Brand New review

The Apple iPhone 14 is no match for the just-released iPhone 14 Pro, but if you ignore that, it’s one of the most effective phones around.

Great cameras, front and back, Fast performance, Good battery life, Innovative safety features

Design too familiar, Some average features

FUJIFILM GFX 100 Medium Format Mirrorless Camera (Body Only) - Brand New review

The iPhone 14 isn’t much of an upgrade over the iPhone 13, but it’s still a great device and an upgrade for anyone coming from the iPhone 11 or older.

Great camera, Good battery, Emergency features are cool, Still excellent performance

Display could use some upgrades
