Fitbit Charge 3

Fitbit call the Charge 3 "our most advanced tracker ever". Given what they've produced in the past, that is one bold statement!

24/7 heart rate insights

The Charge 3 uses Fitbit's most advanced heart rate sensors and algorithms, giving you 24/7 heart rate tracking. Talking about matters of the heart, the real-time heart rate zones reveals when you're in Fat Burn, Cardio or Peak zones during your workout.

Accurate calorie burn info

Many devices take a wild guess where calorie burning is concerned. The Charge 3 promises more accurate information in this area so you can get a better idea of how many calories you're really burning.

Auto sleep tracking

This feature tells you how long you're in light, deep and REM sleep so you can get an improved insight on how much quality rest you're actually getting.

Excellent for exercising

SmartTrack automatically records common exercises like running, swimming, and various sports. Meanwhile, with 15 goal-based exercises, including running, cycling, swimming and circuit training, it's easy to set goals and track your progress with real-time stats. For more real-time tracking, connect the Charge 3 with your phone's GPS to track pace and distance during outdoor runs and rides.

A female friendly Fitbit

With the female health tracking feature, the Charge 3 can be used in conjunction with a Fitbit app to track periods, record symptoms and estimate ovulation and fertility windows.

Water off a duck's back

The design and construction of the Fitbit Charge 3 is as tough as you need it to be during strenuous workouts. It's water resistant up to 50 metres making it ideal for the pool...or the shower you take afterwards!

Fitbit Charge 3 review

The Fitbit Charge 3 is an easy-to-use tracker that’s a perfect size, comfortable and good at tracking your fitness and sleep. The main problem? It feels very similar to the Versa, which we were very fond of. It does mean that the Charge 3 sits in a funny position, as it’s got significantly less features than the Versa, but it’s only £50 less. So for many people opting for the slightly more expensive Versa over the Charge 3 would make more sense. There are some features that are going to be coming soon, like upgraded sleep tracking that gives you a sleep score, but we’re still twiddling our thumbs waiting. Fitbit has done a great job with the Charge 3 and as a standalone experience it’s one of the best activity trackers out there. But the brand better start creating products that occupy a more definite space in the range soon, as well as delivering on promised features, if it’s going to compete with the likes of Apple in the long-term.

Great touchscreen; Good sleep tracking; Easy-to-wear design; Long battery life;

A bit pricey; Very similar to the Versa; No GPS; Fitbit Pay only in special edition;

Fitbit Charge 3 review

The Fitbit Charge 3 is quite the improvement over the Charge 2, but you should only upgrade if you're after a more slick, lightweight design, a slightly larger display and a few new fitness tracking features. It's now been superseded by the Charge 4, but remains a good choice if the lack of on-board GPS isn't a deal-breaker and you're on a tight budget.

Large screen; Light design; Completely waterproof;

No onboard GPS; Monochrome screen; Proprietary charger

Fitbit Charge 3 review: Keeping things simple

As the crossover between the smartwatch and fitness band categories continues to grow, it’s hard not to see the Fitbit Charge 3 as a byproduct of obligation.

The Charge 3 is the best fitness band the company have made to date but it’s hard to recommend over the flashier options available.

Slick form-factor; NFC payments;

Battery life feels like it ought to be better; Lacks some features found in Versa;

Fitbit Charge 3 review

In improving the interface, display, features and battery life for a price that's less than the Charge 2’s RRP, Fitbit has successfully redesigned its most popular product with the Charge 3. Given that it comes two years after the Charge 2 we think it’s a warranted upgrade for Charge 2 owners, particularly if you desire the longer battery life and full waterproofing. And for first-time buyers, you won’t find a better-featured activity tracker on the market at such a fair price. It looks like a worthy upgrade to Fitbit's most popular-ever fitness tracker.

Fitbit Charge 3 Review

The Fitbit Charge 2 has been one of our most highly recommended fitness trackers for two years now. With the $149.95 Charge 3, Fitbit takes a good thing and makes it even better. Thanks to a sharper screen, longer battery life, new sensors, a swim-safe build, and more informative phone notifications, the Charge 3 features just enough changes to remain the best everyday fitness tracker for casual users. That makes it our Editors' Choice, and one of the top wearables for keeping tabs on your health and activity. Bigger Screen, Better Battery With the Charge 3, Fitbit hasn't changed the design of the Charge 2 so much as tweaked it. The monochrome OLED touch screen is bigger, with an active area of 0.7 by 0.2 inches (HW), and the resolution is higher (Fitbit doesn't share exact specs, but it looks noticeably sharper). This makes receiving notifications from your phone a much better experience, as there's enough space to read a whole text message instead of just a part of it. There's a...

The Fitbit Charge 3 isn't a drastic change over its predecessor, but it has enough small tweaks to make it one of the best everyday fitness trackers you can buy.

Crisp screen; Long battery life; Updated with better heart rate and SpO2 sensors; Safe for swimming; NFC payments on Special Edition

Swipe interface can be finicky; Proprietary charger
