Dark Souls III Review – Into the Fire (PS4)

As with any game in the Souls series, you should expect to die a lot. The game's manual says as much. But if you ever expect to get through a Souls game, you have to learn from each death. Progressing in Dark Souls III really comes down to memorization.

Challenging but rewarding; Wonderful atmosphere and lore; Improved combat mechanics..

...marred by a difficult camera; Slow grinding is a necessity; Hilariously stupid AI

Dark Souls III PS4 Review

There's always a moment in a From Software game where the experience is perfectly summed up in a minute of gameplay. It's different for each player, as skill levels vary what troubles you, but it does usually involve familiar patterns.

You'll face death, and it won't be pretty: Dark Souls III review

Dark Souls III is an unhealthy addiction. So much, in fact, that I'm finding it difficult to take time away from playing it to write this review. Though the journey is often frustrating, complex, and completely unfair, it's one perfectly designed to challenge players and reward their hard-fought...

The best mechanics; character options; and overall gameplay in a Souls game; Deadly enemies; deadlier boss fights; and memorable environments; A return to the series' roots

Framerate issues; Occasional rehashing of assets/enemies; A few lackluster boss fights/areas

Dark Souls III

The first few undead warriors in Dark Souls III 's Cemetery of Ash might fail to gut players, but there's one hiding behind a gravestone, eager to finish the job. Should he fail, an archer waits in the distance, piercing players with arrows until they figure out how to roll out of the way.

Dark Souls III

'Dark Souls III' delivers. It scratches a special itch that only its developer has managed find. So while the bounty of 'Souls' games in recent years has spoiled this reviewer, it's impossible not to enjoy, and recommend the game to both new and returning players.

The Beauty in Fire

My Knight swings and the Lothric Wall Knight blocks. Damn, another mistake, this one opens me completely to a counter attack. I regain control and dodge, not a second too soon. After several more seconds the Knight lays dead at my feet, another victory.

Great!

Only started out on this game and I can already see it will be worthy. How ever despite the fantastic views and art work that has gone into this. I would say bloodbourne was only marginal better.

Dark Souls 3

Dark Souls used to feel like a gigantic trap. Dark Souls 3, for better and for worse, feels like home. The third in the trilogy is bewitching while it lasts, but may not leave you wanting more.

The stylistic mixture of Bloodborne and Dark Souls 1; The organic; entwined world layout; The sly hints about the events of previous games; The enhancements to melee combat

The plunging frame-rate during bossfights; The lack of real novelty
