As some of you already know, DJI has just announced a brand-new drone, DJI Spark, that's going to officially come out this summer. When it comes to the release date and pricing, there's a whole chapter dedicated to those things so make sure you check them out.

The DJI Spark delivers one of the best technological parlor tricks I've ever seen. Launching out of your hand and controlling a drone with a wave of your hand is a lot of fun. But when you dive deeper, some issues become apparent.

Small; Supports gesture controls; Smartphone-controlled flight; Automated shots; Subject tracking; Forward obstacle avoidance; GPS stabilization; Safety features, including return-to-home

Battery nets about 12 minutes of flight time; Limited range and speed when controlling with phone; Video limited to 1080p; No support for 24fps or high frame rate capture; App and video editing features could be easier to use; Dedicated remote control is a pricey add-on

Our Spark is returning to DJI a bit worse for wear. As a rule, we try to send products back to companies in the same state they arrived, but that's a hazard of real-world testing a product with four spinning blades: sometimes things end up covered in dirt and grass and the sacrificial blood of one...

DJI's Spark drone is an exquisitely-built, incredibly easy-to-fly drone, but 16 minutes of flight time is not enough, especially when the reality is more like 10 to 12 minutes. There are still so many things to love about DJI's tiny, selfie-snapping drone.

DJI's Spark is, hands down, one of the best compact drones you can buy.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of small drones capable of recording video, so what makes the DJI Spark so different? For one, it's the company's first real attempt at a mass market drone - that is, if the masses have $500 to drop on what's essentially a toy.

There are times when you wish you could really extend out your selfie sticks perhaps a little further to capture more of the background. Perhaps even get a "higher" perspective of things and take a shot from above the trees.

DJI wowed the crowds when they pulled the wraps off the Mavic Pro in September last year. It was the smallest drone by the famed manufacturer at that time. Capable of shooting clear and crips 4K video, it was aimed towards enthusiasts and filmmakers alike.

This is a tiny drone. It's basically the size of an iPhone 7 Plus or portable external hard drive-it's pretty remarkable. On top of that, it's smart as heck and is a lot of fun to fly, but it's not perfect.

Short battery life at ~15 minutes on a single charge; Gimbal is only 2-axis; whereas more expensive drones like the MAVIC Pro use a 3-axis stabilizer; Would love to have 1080p60 for fast-moving subjects; Does not handle winds well; Does not come with a remote controller…you have to use gesture...

a way too expensive toy, within 2 weeks you'll be wanting a better model by other makers for less money
