When the Mavic Pro arrived in our offices, the reaction was unanimous: holy shit, it's small. The folding drone is roughly the size and weight of a hefty Italian sandwich. This compact form factor, I'd come to learn, is a blessing and a curse for the Mavic Pro-emphasis on the blessing.

DJI Mavic Pro Is the Drone of the Year
The DJI Mavic Pro is a revolutionary drone in a number of ways. It folds up to about the size of a pigeon, and offers rock-steady 4K video, smooth flight and a huge array of flying features.
Pros:
- Folds into very small space for storage
- Easy to fly
- Takes great quality video
- Long wireless range
Cons:
- Some glitches in video
- Controller too small to hold tablets

DJI Mavic Pro review: A powerful flying camera anyone can take anywhere
If you've been looking for a discreet, but powerful travel-friendly camera drone, look no further than the DJI Mavic Pro. There have been several kinder, gentler camera drones this year -- from the large PowerVision PowerEgg to the compact Yuneec Breeze -- but the DJI Mavic Pro is the only one to combine high performance, lots of automated flight modes and obstacle avoidance in an ultracompact body. Add in DJI's assortment of safety and ease-of-use features and you've got a drone that anyone can take anywhere.
Pros:
- The DJI Mavic Pro's compact foldable design makes it more travel friendly than any other camera drone with similar capabilities
- Its gaming-style controller is equally compact, but still has all the controls you need to fly and control the camera and it can be piloted with only an iOS or Android device
- Battery life is very good for a small quadcopter.
Cons:
- The phone mount is a little awkward to use
- Not user repairable
- Camera lens is a little narrow for landscapes.

DJI must be cock-a-hoop following news that GoPro is recalling all Karma Drone units already sold. The Karma had put DJI's very own folding drone - the DJI Mavic Pro - firmly in the shade, and I for one couldn't wait to lay my hands on one. Well, it looks like I had a lucky escape.

DJI Mavic Pro review: One insanely powerful, portable drone
If you have a thousand pounds to spend on a sky-bound hovering camera, you're unlikely to find anything that comes close to the DJI Mavic Pro. It's one great drone.
Pros:
- Super portable design
- Lots of smart technology
- Decent battery life and camera quality
Cons:
- Return to home feature and gestures didn't work reliably in testing

DJI Mavic Pro
Small drones are the next big thing. The DJI Mavic Pro ($999) joins the GoPro Karma , the Vantage Robotics Snap , and the Yuneec Breeze as the latest downsized model. It's twice the price of the Breeze, but delivers almost all of the features of DJI's top-end consumer drone, the Phantom 4 .
Pros:
- Small, foldable design
- Obstacle avoidance system
- Sharp, distortion-free stabilized 4K video camera
- 12MP Raw and JPG stills
- Records in portrait or landscape mode
- Compact remote control
- 23-minute flight time
- Strong operating range
- Orbit, follow, and other intelligent flight modes
Cons:
- Requires a smartphone for full experience
- Unable to take off from grass in testing
- Not as steady in strong wind as Phantom models
