Only works with Linux if one downloads and installs a module from Github.

To get this to work with a later Linux kernel, you have to find the git repo and download it. My original review was not accepted, possibly for giving the URL as external urls are apparently forbidden, so I'll just say look for the rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux git repo.

It's not as good as I expected

I purchased this product as I was anxious to utilize the 5 GHZ band on my router. The 2.4 GHZ was way too crowded with over 28 routers in use in my immediate area. One of our laptop computers does NOT receive the 5 GHZ frequency on its wireless card. So this seemed the easy way to go.

Pricey, but very epic.

I got this to replace a faulty wifi card in my laptop. Works like a charm. Best part is, I can use it with my desktop at home without using the ethernet cable. Although it is a little on the expensive side, it works like a charm and its great.

Wow this sucks

It worked OK for about 2 months but didn't actually out perform a 2.4 GHz adapter we were told would be significantly slower. It lasted all of 4 months in use and just died. So wow, just wow.

Great Solution for the Price

I had an issue with my network connection and had to use my cellular hotspot on wireless. The problem was, my PC was not wireless capable. Problem solved! Easy to install. Drivers on the CD. One, two, three and connected!

easy to install; great instructions; cost effective

Very small and easy to use piece of kit. Get excellent speeds on Windows 7 but don't bother on Windows 8 only get half the speed, not the adapters fault, Windows 8 drivers are rubbish. Otherwise excellent.

As expected.

Perfect if you want to switch to 5GHz band. On Windows 10 device is plug n play (found drivers automatically), However as the device is based on realtek 8821au chipset, driver installation on ubuntu 16.04 requires manual efforts of driver source compilation and installation.

Competes with existing wireless adapter

I have an existing Lenovo machine with abgn wireless. The adapter requires you to disable all existing adapters and wireless software prior to installing. The adapter requires its own software.

It does what is expected

When used as my WIFI device, it allowed the FULL 100 mbps speed; while my built in WIFI receiver that came with my laptop purchased in 2009; would only capture a speed of 20 mbps. I am pleased with the "D-Link DWA-171 Wireless AC Dual Band USB Adapter"; that exhibits no loss in speed.
