"Powerful wee bit of kit that can see round corners"

I bought one of these when I got fed up with the Belkin wireless we had in my husband's laptop. We gave up trying to use it wirelessly, plugged hi laptop into the modem and moved the PC, using it with this external wireless adapter The Belkin was half the price ( laptop wireless adapter) but only...

Works at long range; easy to install; powerful

Bit more expensive than some

D-Link RangeBooster N USB Adapter Review

There is little that can be said about the DWA-142 adapter. We like it because of its original design. It is certainly different externally from other Wi-Fi adapters with a USB interface. We can note one serious drawback about it: the DWA-142 works poorly with the Intensify chipset.

Original design; Can be wall-mounted; Large indicator

Incompatible with the ASUS WL-500W; Fasteners for wall mounting not included into the kit

... room in my basement that just did not get good reception with it's built in wifi card

I needed a long range connection for a room in my basement that just did not get good reception with it's built in wifi card. This unit works properly with my D-link hub and not I have 5 bars and can watch Netflix without issues.

WiFi WOW!

Pros: Great product. Easy to set up and forget. Automatic from there on. A little large for laptop work but runs like a dream. I use mine with a USB cord and it acctually works better than plugging directly into my laptop. No Problems.

Just what I wanted

BUT it comes with a good long (8ft I think...) USB extension cable, which will allow you the use of adjacent USB ports and easy access to the USB Wireless Adapter.

It's N

It's pretty fat; plugging it directly into USB port on a laptop or desktop may deny you the use of adjacent ports

UnDecided

Can't give a 5 star review cause I actually don't have it working yet. It connects briefly then within a second or two disconnects. I'm thinking that it may be my security on my router, or some random setting, but for now, I'm undecided.

Perhaps not the cheapest but a nippy little thing

The problem that Mr Bell is having is nothing to do with the USB adapter. It is either the BT Home Hub (only the 2.0 version supports the 802.11n protocol needed to make full use of the 300Mbps connection) or a device that isn't compliant with the N protocol.
