The Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Lens is arguably Canon's best value "L" Lens , combining professional grade build and optical qualities . Though solidly built , the 70-200 f/4L is relatively light (25 oz / 705g).

Another member of Canon's f4 zoom lens suite, the EF 70-200mm f/4L USM combines a relatively compact size with light weight when you consider the amount if glass it contains. Consisting of 16 elements in 13 groups, this lens has two ultra-low-dispersion (UD) elements plus a low-dispersion fluorite...
I've owned this lens for over 6 months now and this is by far one of my most favorite telephoto lenses. Image quality is superb, lens build quality is superb, handling is superb. It's one of the best lenses among Canon's lenses and considering its modest price, I think it's a bargain.
Price; image quality; build quality; did I say price
No tripod collar
This easily is one of the best Lens I have owned. One of its kind. The 'L' says it all. Amazing performance in the day light condition and equally great performance at low light mode. Looking at the images, you will never be able to tell that 'IS' is missing. Crisp and sharp images.
This was the first lens and my 1st L lens. Only having the 18-55 kit lens before, really showed up how bad that lens was. AF is fast and almost silent. Images are sharp throughout the focal length and bokeh is impressive.
Sharp; good IQ; fast focus....and it's white :
It makes your kit lens look silly
This lens is Canon's ‘cheaper' version of the highly rated 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM. Leaving out the Image Stabilisation and making the lens one stop slower at f/4 make the saving. Otherwise, Canon claim it has the same quality glass and construction.
Great build quality; Good and consistent performance for price; Silent and quick autofocus
Chromatic aberration on the borderline; Tripod mount not included in the price
I'v had my eye on this lens for over a year, and I bought it a few weeks ago when I realized that Canon lens prices seem to be trending upward since the tsunami in Japan. I'm am very happy with the lens. Its acceptably sharp, as long as you recognize the inherent limitations with an f4.
The EF70-200/4L is one of Canon's least expensive "L" series lenses. Using both fluorite and low dispersion glass optics, the lens is very sharp though out the zoom range and maintains a constant f4 maximum aperture.
Lots of professional features for a fraction of the cost ; well-constructed ; slightly slow for action/sports photography, but a marked step in the right direction
Durable; Lightweight; Rugged; Strong Construction
Slow Focus
The Canon EF 70-200mm f4 IS USM L lens is a professional grade 70-200mm lens without the size and heft, as well as price, as found in f2.8 versions.
Professional grade build quality, including dust and moisture sealing; four stops of image stabilization system; relatively lightweight
The tripod collar is optional; relatively expensive
