This is one of my "trinity" of zooms I use on my 40D and 50D. If you never have tried a a professional level lens (they are called "L's in Canon-ese), you will be shocked at how smooth and solid a lens like this is!
I'v had my eye on this lens for over a year, and I bought it a few weeks ago when I realized that Canon lens prices seem to be trending upward since the tsunami in Japan. I'm am very happy with the lens. Its acceptably sharp, as long as you recognize the inherent limitations with an f4.
This lens is perfect, but has no IS. It's very difficult to maintain focus in low light condition and little movement can ruin the picture. It has sharp lens, low noise and fast focus. This lens is brilliant, but better get the one with IS for hastle fee.
Fast auto-focus; Superior build quality; Super-sharp images
I would highly recommend buying the 2.8 version .
For years I have looked at the Canon 'white' lense and wanted one. Now, due to being able to upgrade to digital and Smifu's amazing prices, I actually own one. What a lense! Lighter than I expected and much clearer than the old Canon lenses (I got all my old gear out to compare).
This has been one of the best lenses I have ever had as a multifunction lens the best it the canon 50mm f-1.2 L series This lens is in addition to several other "L" series lenses that I own I shoot with a 5D Mark II, Canon 7D and the 450D (aks) the SXi.
It's the Canon 70-200, is there really more to say haha The lack of IS while there are times when I'd like to be able to use a 1/120 or 1/160 shutter hand held at 200mm I've honestly managed to work around it just bumping the ISO slightly on my camera.
This is my first telephoto and my first L lens. The main purpose of this lens is just to take pictures of my kids and landscape. All I have to say is that all the positive comments about this lens you read is true.
Very sharp light weight lens. Wide open bokeh is not bad colours are outstanding. As I mostly use this lens on a Monopod I.S is not a concern but would be nice for hand held. Focus and zoom rings operate very smoothly.
