Very versatile

I have owned this lens for a long time. I purchased it because of its versatility, it give very sharp images, it's not to heavy, and built like a tank. It's an excellent alternative to the more expensive ones like the I.S. and the 2.8 version. It's also lighter.

I got the new lens and immediately went out and did 2 photo shoots in 1 day. I didn't know I was such a great photographer (tee hee). All jokes aside this is my first L series lens and it was such a joy to use it. The lens caught focus quickly and the photos came out fabulous.

Image Stabilisation Not Necessary

I have had two of the 70 - 200 2.8 IS lenses and have always been disappointed with the amount of time it took to engage the IS. The IS lens would fish around when in that mode and so I usually had it turned off and used a shorter shutter speed for preference in getting a crisper image.

L = Lovely bargain

Had this lens awhile now it's the cheapest L 70-200mm Canon do, it doesn't have image stabilising or weather seal but the image quality and the build quality are first rate. Well worth the money in fact a bargain.

Top lens

It's a great lens for certain things. I use it mainly for landscapes. The f4 is not important in landscape so if you need it for sports/wildlife don't bother, get the longer fixed focal length 300 or 400mm which are both superb. As a general low to mid length focal length it's hard to beat.
Pros:
  • Consistent Output
  • Durable
  • Easily Interchangeable
  • Lightweight
  • Quick Focus
  • Rugged
  • Sharp Focus
  • Strong Construction

Canon 70-200 AWESOME lens

This is an awesome lens. I bought it to photograph sports and I've found myself using it as a carry lens. The 'L' rated lens has a much more defined contrast and much better image sharpness than my kit lens.
Pros:
  • Image quality Build No external moving parts
Cons:
  • None
