Brother HL-2130

Mono laser printers start at under £100 and the entry-level model in Brother's range is the HL-2130, which can be had for only a tad more than £80. For this, you get a basic, but very serviceable personal laser for the home or small office.

Fast print for class; Linux driver link from setup app; 250-sheet paper tray and multi-purpose slot

Quite pricey to run; compared with rivals; Blotchy greyscale print; Hard to distinguish mid-grey tones

Brother HL-2130 review

The Brother HL-2130 is a straightforward mono laser printer at a sub-£100 price, short on frills but relatively high on value.

A Mono Laser Printer : Brother HL-2130

The HL-2130 is currently available at £88.13.  A replacement cartridge giving up to 1,000 pages is priced at £33.57 while a new drum unit, rated at 12,000 pages, will cost £70.80.

Brother HL-2130 review Review

The Brother HL-2130 may not offer the last word in print quality, and it's not the cheapest laser printer in the long term. But its petite design, fast print speed and low price tag all work heavily in its favour. For those with less demanding printing needs, it's definitely worth checking out.

Excellent text quality; Low price; Easy to set up; Small footprint

Some banding on grey fills; Not as cheap to run as some competitors

Brother HL-2130 review: Brother HL-2130

Many people don't need fax and scanning features -- they just want a cheap printer that will reliably pump out page after page at a reasonable running cost. Brother's entry-level HL-2130 monochrome laser printer seems to fit this bill, and it won't put too much of a dent in your bank balance, as it can be picked up for around £80 online.

The Brother HL-2130's graphics performance could be slightly better, and it's not the cheapest monochrome laser printer in terms of running costs. But its crisp text, small size and low price mean it's still worth a gander.

Excellent text quality; low price; easy to set up; small footprint.

Some banding on grey fills; not as cheap to run as some competitors.

I've owned two of this printer's predecessors, the HL 2030. The first died of plastic fatigue, the second is on its way. Why buy another? It's reliable, cheap to run and gives good results i've never changed a drum.

Good printer, but ... very disappointed with toner output; currently showing 1237 pages printed and toner warning light on and have so far used original and now getting to end of 2nd replacement toner.

Its a good little printer have to use it more before I can make more authoritative comments about the printer's performance. Till now this seems good.
