Bose Portable Home Speaker - Luxe Silver 829393-5310 review

There’s a lot to like about the Bose Portable Home Speaker; it’s super smart, and its design blends functionality with minimalist chic. It may not sound quite as powerful as the Sonos Move, but it’s still a solid choice if you don’t want to sacrifice audio fidelity for portability.

Great design; Choice of Alexa or Google Assistant; Warm; well-balanced sound

Bass lacking compared to Sonos Move; Expensive

Bose Portable Home Speaker - Luxe Silver 829393-5310 review

Not perfect and definitely not cheap, but the feature-packed Bose Portable Home Speaker is still very easy to like

Premium and very portable design; Room-filling 360 sound; Alexa and Google Assistant all over the house; IPX4 means it can go outdoors too

Very expensive; You can find better-sounding speakers that cost less; Bose Music app is average

The Bose Portable Home Speaker is a waterproof portable speaker with built-in Google Assistant and Alexa, but slim smarts hold it back

Bose Portable Home Speaker - Luxe Silver 829393-5310 review

The Bose Portable Home Speaker delivers Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control with powerful wireless audio for its size, if not its price.

Powerful audio with rich bass and crisp highs; Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control; Streams via AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.

Expensive; Mono; Speaker has trouble with deep bass at high volume levels.

Bose Portable Home Speaker - Luxe Silver 829393-5310 review

“It's never been easier to take room-filling sound with you, without sacrificing smart speaker features.”

Very portable; High sensitivity mics; Great 360-degree sound; Alexa and Google Assistant; AirPlay 2

Limited app features; Missing some midrange; Not ideal for Android

Bose Portable Home Speaker - Luxe Silver 829393-5310 review

This small speaker has a huge sound, I just wish it was a bit tougher

Perfect portable size and design; The Bose app has a nice design; 360-degree sound quality is stellar

The white version gets dirty easily; The Bose app is limited in content; Charging dock isn't included

Bose Portable Home Speaker review

It’s not cheap, but if you’re looking to invest in a high-quality smart speaker that doesn’t need to be kept on a leash, there’s a lot to like about the PHS. It looks and sounds good, the smart stuff works as well as you’d hope, and - need we remind you - it has a handle. Sonos’ Move is still top of this category, but you can pick up a PHS for around £30 less on Bose’s website. And if you do, we don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Bose Portable Home Speaker review

The Bose Portable Home Speaker is a welcome addition to the Bose smart speaker range, adding flexibility thanks to a 12-hour battery life and IPX4 waterproofing, without compromising on audio. Built-in support for Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa delivers the smarts, but be warned that this integration isn't as fully featured as on official products or even other third-party rivals.

Bose Portable Home Speaker review: Sound significantly beyond its size

Glance at this speaker and you'll probably be left scratching your head as to why its asking price is so much for a small little thing. Switch it on, however, and the sensational audio will let you know in a heartbeat. It sounds big beyond its scale and is probably the only smart speaker you'll ever need buy.

Big sound and bass that sounds well beyond the product size; Lots of connectivity - Airplay 2 / Wi-Fi / Bluetooth; Genuinely portable - and decent 12hr battery life;

It's rather pricey; Struggles at its top volumes; Not dynamic enough at lower volumes;

Bose Portable Home Speaker Review

Continuing its foray into smart speaker territory, the $349.95 Bose Portable Home Speaker features built-in support for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, a water-resistant build, and a useful companion app that makes setup and control as simple as can be. From an audio standpoint, there's plenty of power here, with lots of reciprocal boosting in the lows and highs so things remain balanced, though occasionally the speaker can run into trouble at high volume levels on tracks with deep bass content. As a secondary satellite in a multi-room system, the Bose Portable Home Speaker is a solid addition—but it's priced more like a primary sound source. Design The cylindrical Portable Home Speaker comes in black or silver and measures 7.5 inches high, about 4.0 inches in diameter, and weighs 2.4 pounds. A thick, clothbound handle for easy portability is connected to the top portion of the speaker, and a rubberized base stabilizes the body as it sits upright. The lower half is covered in w...
