Although expensive, this three-piece speaker system is one of the more distinct-looking and attractively designed PC speaker packages we've seen -- and it sounds pretty good, too.

Bose Companion 5 Multimedia Speaker System
The Bose Companion 5 multimedia speaker system is a sleek black-and-gray 2.1 setup promising "surround-like" performance. Though it's aimed at the desktop-computer crowd (it connects via USB), it could easily fill a living room with sound.
Pros:
- The subwoofer delivers nice rumble
- Speakers widen the stereo image
- Great for desktop or home listening
- Wired control has volume and mute button
Cons:
- "Surround-like" is NOT real surround sound
- The satellites are lacking in the mid-high frequencies
- Control is wired

Bose Companion 5
T he satellites on the Bose Companion 5-hereon referred to as the BC 5-look like a prop from a Star Wars film set. However, the long subwoofer looks a little like a largish UPS. The matte-finished black and grey looks elegant, and the stylish satellites and classy control pod all add up to a killer...

Bose Companion 5
Bose is not a brand you traditionally associate with computers, but the high-end hi-fi specialist is now targeting PC users who want an aesthetically pleasing product that offers superior sound quality.

Bose's flagship computer speakers are engineered to bring a lot more sound than you'd ever expect possible from two satellites and a subwoofer.

Bose Companion 5 Produces Superior Sound
I am 98% satisfied with the unit despite the fact that used with a single PS/2 mouse, single PS2 keyboard, and single two channel audio output two-computer KVM switch, (1) it is only capable of true two channel sound; (2) the auxilliary two audio channel input lies at the front of the wired remote...
Pros:
- Great Sound Quality

For the Fine Tuned Sound Expert
These are not your father's computer speakers, they are a whole other brand of sound monsters created in a secret lab hidden away from the world. Seriously though, these computer speakers can easily compete with 5.1 THX stereo computer speakers with not much in the way of comparison.
Pros:
- Excellent highs and lows
- full reproduction of sound
- good looking
- somewhat space saving
- nice extras
- WOW factor
Cons:
- VERY high fidelity learning curve
- as if this were a bad thing

Bose Companion 5 Speakers
A while back, I bought a Slim devices Squeezebox 3 (a network music player manufactured by Logitech) and I then needed some powered speakers to connect to it. Currently, however, the market for powered speakers is a little sparse.
