Asus ZenFone 5 review
We really like the ZenFone 5. From its design and battery life to its software and price tag, this smartphone has got a lot going for it. However, it's well worth checking whether Motorola's Moto G is a better choice for you, as it could save you a bit of money but provide very similar features, including an 8Mp camera, a 294ppi 5in IPS screen and a microSD slot (though it only adds up to 32GB).

Asus ZenFone 5 (2018) review
The mid-range Android market gets more compelling - and competitive - every year, so it's remarkable that Asus has managed to come out swinging with a handset that offers a £1000 design with a third of the price tag. The AI features are mostly marketing hype, and the average user won't even notice them, but the decent camera, smooth performance, and big, beautiful display mean the ZenFone 5 should be seriously tempting for anyone looking for a full-screen phone that won't break the bank.

Asus ZenFone 5 review
Right now, you’ve got plenty of choices if you’re after a top-spec handset that won’t wipe out your wallet. Has the ZenFone 5 done enough to stand out from its rivals? Asus has managed to squeeze great performance out of its hardware, finally delivered a version of Android that isn’t overly stuffed with useless apps, and it looks the business too. It’s £70 less than a SIM-free OnePlus 6, but if you can afford it I reckon it’s worth stumping up the extra for the OLED display and superior CPU. You’d also be making concessions in the performance and camera quality departments if you chose the ZenFone over the Honor 10 - but if you can’t stand Honor’s overly customised take on Android or its electric colour scheme, this is a substantial, subdued alternative.
Pros:
- Great performance and battery life
- Premium looks and build
- Stripped back OS with no bloat
Cons:
- Wide angle camera below par
- Fingerprint wake can be a bit slow
- Haven’t I seen you somewhere before?
