WARNING: Not Compatible with Windows 7

In late 2013 Microsoft changed the sound driver architecture in Windows 7, and as of 2014 ASUS still hasn't fixed the drivers for ANY of their Xonar cards. This causes the card to output sound at 8KHz with *massive* compression artifacts, no matter what the settings. It sounds like a bad Skype call.

Amazing hardware

Bad drivers cripple the card

Card drivers have MAJOR problems!

Got this card installed on a new system. Sound quality is outstanding.. the problem is the drivers are crap. For many EAX games you must disabled the GX mode of the card or you will not only experience constant CTD's you will also find the sound ends up looping and the only way to fix it is a hard...

Hooked this up to my original speakers and I could instantly tell the difference. The mids and highs sounded much clearer and I was able to hear instruments that I couldn't hear before. Even made me go out and buy a new set of speakers to maximize my investment.

big improvement over onboard sound

software is a bit clunky; will likely make you buy a new set of speakers; a bit pricey

Nice card-But update your BIOS!!!l

It took me several hours to install this but I am not holding it against the card or Asus. I have an EVGA 780i MoBo runing with an iVidia 8800GTX graphics card on 1100 watts PSU on Win7 (32) and at first my board would not even recognize the card. Software update for Win 7 would not install, etc.

Easy To Use; NIce user interface; Quality Output

Difficult To Install

I shall be short. Tech specs are not bad. Or at least were not bad, when card came out. Dobly Surround 7.1 It had bells and whistles, like hardware accelerated 3D sound extensions. Digital output. It has 24kbit and sample rate of whooping 192000, which is pretty cool.

Cheap; Linux friendly; PCI Express X1

Requires floppy connector; rather unstable inside motherboard

Asus Xonar DX

I'm sure you'll be pleased to hear that sound cards have started getting interesting again after years of a boring one horse race. It wasn't too long ago when we looked at the – the PCI-Express x1 version of the original D2.

Works great

My greatest concern was - will this sound card work with my xp64. Other cards I purchased in the past would not. This sound card advertised that it will work with xp64 and in fact it does. I have it connected to my Pioneer Elite 7.1 - wow.

ASUS Xonar DX 7.1 PCI-E Sound Card

Asus have long been a leader in producing high quality, reliable hardware and components. Testament to this fact is that Asus are a ‘Tier 1' manufacturer for Intel's current chipset/motherboard offerings are also among the top manufacturers of both ATI and Nvidia based graphics cards along with...

• Fantastic overall sound; • Very good looking card; • Solid capacitors for durability; • Front panel connectivity; • PCIe functionality

• Lack of DTS encoding capabilities; • Requirement of additional floppy power cable; • Lack of prompt driver updates preventing some games (Bioshock) from working correctly

Worth the splurge

Great card. Could use a slightly better headphone amp but that's my only gripe. Spending another $50-$75 would net you that but spending more if your not editing or producing would be kind of silly.

I bought this for a build while I was in the process of setting my credit on fire, I still don't regret this purchase; The price tier that this sound card is on is perfect for people who want a nice step above motherboard audio and don't mind spending $50 > $100.

There aren't many cons with this audio card except for a few sort ofs: Keep in mind; this card does not have digital optical!!! Don't buy it without reading and trash/complain about this card here because you weren't paying attention!
