Acer Iconia Tab A100 review

Life is all about choices and trade-offs. With the Acer Iconia Tab A100, the main compromise is in size. This 417g tablet, the first to run the Android 3.2 operating system, is too big to be a smartphone and too small – at a 7-inch screen size – to watch movies on.

Acer Iconia A100 Review

Acer has performed a neat trick by bring a seven-inch tablet to the table - or indeed to the jacket pockets of consumers. Acer also brought us one of the first devices to run on Android Honeycomb (the Acer Iconia A500 tablet), so how does its smaller sibling stand up to its bigger brother?
Pros:
  • Speedy dual-core chip and Android Honeycomb preloaded
Cons:
  • If you want more than 7 inches from your tablet you'll need to look to Apple or Samsung for a solution

Acer Iconia Tab A100 Review

You're going to wish it had a bigger battery, and the screen will bother you a little, but other than that, the A100 is a good 7-inch tablet and a great device to carry along in your purse or bag.
Pros:
  • Runs Android 3.2
  • Powerful specs for a 7-inch tablet
  • Great design and feel
  • Rear camera has flash
  • Cool travel case
Cons:
  • Battery life is 4 or 5 hours max
  • Screen is too reflective
  • has limited viewing angle
  • Rear camera takes bland pictures

Acer Iconia Tab A100 review

The Acer Iconia Tab A100 does have its charms: things like Honeycomb 3.2, a relatively good camera, and a snappy Tegra 2 processor. However, it really still has too many flaws for me to recommend it to the general consumer.

Acer Iconia A100 7in Android tablet

Despite the tablet's display and battery life failing to reach my high expectations, I enjoyed using it during my week-long test. Sure, the 7in screen's resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels is barely more than an iPhone 4's 960 x 640, but the Iconia Tab A100's physical size makes just about everything...
