First, I hope you haven't read through this review and deduced that the WD1000DHTZ drive as a failure…as that is surely not the case. To be fair, we weren't comparing apples to apples in this review as no HDD will ever directly compete with an SSD.
I bought two of these hard drives to support my super computer which has 2No GTX 690's in Sli mode, i7 3960X Extreme CPU and Asus Rampage IV Motherboard. I have actually just plugged them into my Sata II port, because my Sata III port are fully occupied, but none the less I am receiving super fast...
I would reorder one of these for my next purchase! Etronix World is a great company and solid supplier!
High Capacity Extremely Reliable Quite (for a Raptor drive) Fast
Not a con but just not as fast as a SSD (solid state drive
Western Digital delivers reliable storage, as always, but my Velociraptor makes a crunchy sound and occasionally a chirping sound. from what i've read this is pretty common with these, and some people actually like the sound. Works great though.
reliable; fast
noisy
I just ordered 2 of them. I always used Raptors for my Raid 0 Array. I wouldn't consider anything else for the price & reliability. I know fast & large capacity SSD's are still too expensive & you need to be careful how you treat them.
The Good: I converted two WD Caviar black drives to 500Gb and 1Tb Velociraptor drives respectively. The difference is amazing. Bootup is much faster and all applications load with incredible speed. These drives come very close to solid state drive performance.
In the past couple years, Intel has said that SSDs will inevitably replace platter based hard drives. Unfortunately, limited quantities of...
1TB; 2TB (tested) up to 4TB models offered; Large storage solution; Quiet operation; No additional power draw from previous generation; Low level wear head design; Great cost benefit ratio; 1TB High Performance Platter; Not too heavy at all; Noticeably faster program load and boot time; IcePack...
Will generate some heat; Weighs nearly 2 pounds each; Price makes one consider an SSD; IcePack doesn't really cool anything
Slightly noisier than the Western Digital Green HDD, but the speed of file transfer makes up for that. Very Happy
The noise during the time when you access the drive for reading and writing. It doesn't sound like a coffee grinder but its somewhere near that. This drive's grinding noise is the perfect candidate for a product's testing methodology I hope to implement in the near future.
