Tearaway Unfolded Review: Paper-Thin

Tearaway Unfolded has an inspired art style and memorable music, but both the gameplay and the story are rather undemanding.

Beautiful; lavishly rendered world; Inspired voice acting and music; Makes use of unique PS4 features

Simplistic gameplay; Insubstantial story; Extra features feel like gimmicks

"Great looking and fun adventure game for kids"

Buy this instead of all that mobile and tablet game crap for your kids. Beautiful graphics, great animation, fun mechanics and ideas, platforming, bit of fun ‘fighting' and lots of charm It IS single player, but one of the best games I got for my daughter on the PS4

Great game. Bought it for the kids but I play it instead now. Absolutely fantastic environments.

Tearaway Unfolded is a lovely-looking game. As you might expect from the makers of LittleBigPlanet, it's a visually textural treat. Only rather than having the more fabric-based look and feel of LBP, this time out everything in this game from its characters to the scenery and backdrops looks like...

Tearaway Unfolded review – custom?controller

A noble effort to recreate one of the PS Vita's best games on a home console, but the end result never feels quite as elegant or organic as the original.

Incredible presentation and wonderfully realised graphics; Clever use of the DualShock 4 and PlayStation app to create different inputs and customisation options

Many of the mechanics, particularly the combat, are fairly superficial; Almost none of the control gimmicks work quite as well as the original and the pacing is considerably worse

Tearaway Unfolded

The Vita-exclusive has dared to step over to console. So does the handheld masterpiece have to make compromises to fit its new home?

This is an amazing game! Smart, creative and fun. It was developed for everyone in the family. It is the only game that at least tries to do a good use of all the system features. It's only problem is it's REALLY slow start

Tearaway Unfolded Review: Potential in creases

Though Tearaway Unfolded does wonders with paper, it sometimes leaves you feeling flat.

Beautiful; believable craftsmanship in a paper world; Buoyant personality and charming tunes; Imaginative input treats the game like a wondrous toy box

Pacing flattens out often in-between so-so platforming; Your creativity doesn't extend beyond decoration

Tearaway Unfolded Review

successfully translates so many aspects of the original. It remains a distinctive experience which celebrates creativity and fun with undimmed enthusiasm and invention, and along the way asks you to do things very few games do – whether that's designing a snowflake or christening a baby wendigo.

Papercraft world; Art challenges; Use of DualShock 4

Pacing problems; Repetitive fights

A canvas for your imagination

When I first played Tearaway back in 2013, I adamantly argued that Media Molecule's delightful and imaginative platformer wouldn't be possible without the PlayStation Vita. The Vita's medley of distinct inputs-from the touch screen to the front- and rear-facing cameras-allowed for genuine...

Creative and effective use of the DualShock 4; Stunning art style; Cute and charming world; Creatively solving puzzles is rewarding

Requires extra hardware to get the most out of the game; The impact of the ending is hindered by pacing issues
