Synology throws down a glove in a convincing way. It may not have the newest router technology, but it's not a downside as the price of 180 dollars is very reasonable for all the kit you are getting. In terms of performance we can only say it is overall excellent.

Won't work with some isp's.

This router won't current work with Sky fibre due to the inability to pass the username and password to the modem. This is being worked on however.

Synology Router RT1900ac High-Speed Wireless Router Review

I couldn't find the Synology RT1900ac listed for US purchase at the time of writing, but that should change very shortly. British readers can find the RT1900ac at Amazon for £155.45 plus shipping and German readers can find a deal starting from €151.01 through Geizhals .

AC1900 dual-band; Good and powerful antennas; USB 3.0 and SD Card slot; Multiple mount and setup options; Awesome operating system; Good price

Only one USB port; Limited availability at the time of writing

Synology Router RT1900ac

For a large number of PC users, Synology represents the gold standard in network-attached storage (NAS). The Taiwanese company, founded in 2000, has in recent years raised the bar for NAS solutions and developed a portfolio of award-winning products running the popular DiskStation Manager operating...

Practical SRM operating system; Has features you'll actually want to use; Good wireless performance; App store has potential; Delivers a quality user experience

Not available with a built-in modem; Hardware not the prettiest

Synology RT1900ac, from NAS to Networking

The 2.4GHz range blew away my need for a repeater down in my room where it has always been problematic to sustain enough signal for decent speed. My range extender is powered down and out down this end of the house. 5GHz range is adequate to decent.

Review: Synology RT1900ac

Synology is best known for its NAS products, which we regard very highly. Now it has entered the router market, which, given its networking expertise, makes perfect sense. The RT1900ac is what we'd call solid if unspectacular.

With a rank of 14 out of the 16 AC1900 routers in the Router Ranker , there isn't much reason to recommend the Synology RT1900ac based on either price or performance. Sorting the Ranker by ascending price, there are plenty of better performing routers to be had for less than the $200 the single...

An easy to set up router with lots of advanced features, but performance is patchy

Synology Router RT1900ac review

Synology is best known for its excellent range of NAS devices, so it was a surprise to see it launch a router. The company isn't renowned for eye-grabbing design, but in an age of ever flashier-looking routers, Synology's simply-named RT1900ac sticks with a plain black plastic casing.

Synology Router RT1900ac

Best known for its network-attached storage (NAS) product line, Synology enters the router market with its Router RT1900ac ($149.99), and it's an impressive debut. This reasonably priced dual-band model delivered speedy performance in our throughput tests and is equipped with a nice selection of I/O...

Strong 5GHz throughput performance in testing; Reasonably priced; Solid feature set

Middling file-transfer performance; 2.4GHz range could be better
