Amazing, exceeded expectations by far, I would give it 6 stars if I could. After much agonising about this verses a GoPro, I eventually bought this in late 2015. It has been brilliant - although I notice the price has gone up quite a bit since then which may expose it to more competition today.

Sony's 4K Action Cam is a capable POV camcorder that shoots great videos, but its size and price put it behind GoPro's Hero4 Black.

Larger than most action cams; 4K requires SDXC card; Some quality issues in bright light; Pricey compared to competition

Worth a look if you're new to the POV camera market, but if you've already got a GoPro, stick with it.

- Colors are oversaturated; - Stills aren't very good

At the end of the day, in the action cam market, the buck stops at GoPro. Whether a company is trying to compete with them or not, they are the standard that everyone is held to.

I tried GoPro Hero 4 Black and I was very dissappointed, I had to returned everything including all accesories. Then I tried this Sony FDR-X1000V and it is great, is not perfect though but certainly better than the GoPro. I really love the Steady Image Stabilization. So I will keep this camera.

I love the new case, the ability to control the menu without taking it out of the case is huge. The new video options (4k and higher frame rate) are nice too, but as far as video quality it may be better, I didn't do a side by side, but it is not significantly better than several versions back.

- get the correct memory card to run this camera for 4K - needs a cradle to turn into a handy-cam with display (SONY if you're listening) - it is harder to live with than the GoPro4 B (hard to explain why, but that's why you should get this, as its off the norm) - it is sleeker than the GoPro4 B,...

sleek design - stereo audio with noise reduction - image stabilization is smooth - great optics (1080p and 4K better quality than GoPro4 B - affordable price - flexible file formats (better than GoPro4 B - good battery life - great alternative if you HATE GoPro4 Black - love the play memories app...

- flimsy backdoor (its gonna break over time; opening and closing to access the charging port) - cheap and plastic construction - fish-eye 4K in 60Hz video (normal 1080p in 60Hz - high temperature sensitivity for an action cam (overheating fast when ambient temp increases) - device doesn't always...

I use this camera professionally on numerous classic and exotic cars and it was chosen over the GoPro due to the image quality. At 4k however you do get an awful fish-eye effect which needs tweaking in post production.
