Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro APO

The first 50 images I shot with this lens were overly soft. As I worked more with the lens the images improved dramatically. I typically start in manual mode and begin testing based upon what I know about light and exposure (which I'm learning slowly over time).

versatile; excellent macros; pleasant images

soft in some cases; slow optically

SIGMA 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 DG APO Telephoto Zoom Lens with Macro - for Nikon

Good quality Value for money Comes with carry case

Bit noisy when focussing Lens cap design means that it can be a pain to put on correctly; have nearly lost it a couple of times

Sigma's 70-300mm F4-5.6 DG APO Macro is a compact telephoto zoom lens. With a range that is useful for candid portraiture, capturing children playing in the backyard, amateur sports or even wildlife at the zoo this lens is usually the lens that photographers reach for first.

As per usual, screw a filter on the end to protect the lens.

Focuses great - sharp and relatively quick; Doesn't feel very heavy around the neck for a big lens, I can use it for hours before I need a break; Works great for shooting wildlife, portraits and landscapes; The price is great.

Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 DL-M Motorized DG Macro Telephoto Zoom Lens with Built-in Motor Drive for Nikon SLR Cameras Including D40, D40X, D60

I shoot with a Nikon and this was the first lens I bought(Aside from the default lens, obviously). This lens has fantastic zooming and Macro settings. I can easily switch from Auto to Manual and yes, okay, it makes noise when it focuses.

Simple Telezoom for starters

Value for money. Dont expect miraculous build and experience. For the money, this is hands down the best lens you cant get in this category.
