NZXT Phantom 820 Review

If you're big on case lighting-you Cylon fan, you-you're going to absolutely love NZXT 's latest Phantom chassis. It's rare to see such attention to detail paid to simple illumination, as with the three separate strands of lighting found on the exterior, interior, and rear of NZXT's Phantom 820 .

Gorgeous chassis with eye-catching; customizable lighting across three separate zones

Wiring and instructions a bit tricky to figure out; finicky fan controller

NZXT Phantom 820

NZXT chassis seem to get better with each revision, but the company has a habit of leaving room for a couple of small improvements. The Phantom 820 is a continuation of that trend; it's arguably NZXT's most impressive full-tower solution to date, yet there are a few elements that could be enhanced.

Very tall, much room!

I got this for a Christmas gift about a month early - my girlfriend didn't know that it ships in the retail packaging. I sat and waited a month before getting to open it, and then another month before I had the time to transfer my system.

Seems to be almost the same width and depth as the original NZXT Phantom, which I upgraded from; This however, is much taller; Better quality rubber on the cable routing grommets than the original Phantom, and more spaces for routing cables.

Very, very tightly constructed; The side panels are very snug to get off and have to be pushed in more considerably; After reading the manual, I took off the front panel for the FIRST TIME and a plastic connector broke; The same thing happened to the top.

Unfortunately, many PC enthusiasts tend to skimp on the chassis when building a new system. After all, you can get a decent case with adequate cooling for next to nothing these days, making a splurge on a $200-plus, premium case seem unnecessary.

Has pretty everything you could want in a full tower.

Great air flow (with better fans), solid build quality, and tons of rubber grommets for cable management. I can't say enough good things. The few faults are very minor or just an issue of personal taste. Got it for $50 off during Black Friday week.

Full RGB case lighting, inside and out; 4 Channel fan controller with 15w per channel; Tons of room for water cooling, top holds a 120x3 rad without a problem; With a remove a removable bottom drive bay you could mount a 2 fan ran there too.

The three 200mm aren't too power full; Also the grill that come with them seem to restrict airflow; With a 200mm fan mounted on the left side panel, you may have issues with tall video cards that have top power connections

NZXT Phantom 820 review

It's rare for a case to stand out these days, as the case market is littered with average performers, but the Phantom 820 stood out in many ways. The case has almost every feature you could ask of it, and more importantly they're implemented in sensible ways rather than just thrown in to bulk out...
