Max Payne 3

After a nearly ten-year hiatus, Max Payne returns in the third installment of this series-and the first developed by a studio other than creators Remedy Entertainment. With Rockstar picking up where Remedy left off, Max Payne 3 sees its titular character taking a bodyguard job in Sau Paulo, Brazil,...

Bullet-time gameplay still separates Max Payne series from crowd; Preserves spirit of first two games; with Rockstar-level polishEuphoria engine looks great during firefights

Some unnatural physics and rough spikes in difficulty; Single player gameplay often feels repetitive; with too little story

Max Payne 3 Review

It has been a long wait - nine years to be precise - since Max Payne last hit the gaming shelves. After endless delays, we got our hands on the latest edition of the franchise, simply titled Max Payne 3.

Excellent graphics; Immersive gameplay; Variety in terrains; Intricate detailing in level design

Noir element is minimal

Max Payne 3

If you might recall the original Max Payne beat Matrix to the punch. Quickly after The Matrix hit theaters worldwide, everyone knew that a video game counterpart would soon follow, taking advantage of the trademark bulletime feat.

We like the character of Max Payne; congrats to Rockstar for delivering a game with a unique and spectacular atmosphere; great visual effects; brilliant audio and that goes for both the soundtrack and voice acting; it's still an entertaining shooter

All the shooting and bullettime shenanigans gets tiring after a while; often feels like a GTA game without the free-roam component

Max Payne 3 Review

The original Max Payne was released in 2001 and was immediately notable for its sometimes tongue-in-cheek, sometimes stone-cold serious film noir vibe and its reliance on a single gameplay mechanic (read: gimmick). But oh, what a mechanic it was.

Fourteen meaty chapters with a smile across your face.

Some control issues and strange design choices (enemies have grenades but you don't); a few technical blemishes and frequent cinematics

Max Payne 3 Review

Time slows, and the precision of bullet-time gunplay reflects alcoholic, pill-addicted Max Payne's focused determination in a narrative of personal redemption, and an existence he perceives as out of control – thrown to the wind, yet gripped like a vise. There's nothing superfluous here.

Oozes style; Excellent pacing; Strong narrative and character development; Refined shooting mechanics; James McCaffrey's performace; Impressive set pieces; Engaging multiplayer modes

Waiting 9 years for this

Max Payne 3 is a glimpse into the future of video games (review)

Max Payne 3 was meant to be a new chapter in the life of the titular former NYPD detective, who left New York behind to become a bodyguard for Sao Paulo's richest family. But while publisher/developer Rockstar's attempt at a meaningful story may ultimately fall flat, its revolutionary method of...

A seamless interactive story Even in a game as seemingly pedestrian as Max Payne (story, shoot, story, shoot, story, shoot…), Rockstar has crafted a very technologically impressive experience; From the menu, the single-player story mode starts instantly, launching into the opening cutscene.

U sad, bro? Max Payne 3 is set eight years after the events of Max Payne 2, but it's been over a decade since thugs murdered Max's wife and child; Yet he can't; Stop; Talking; About; It.

Max Payne 3

If 2003's Max Payne 2 was subtitled The Fall of Max Payne , then the long-awaited third game is The Near-Death Experience of Max Payne . Seriously, this is 12 hours with a broken shell of a man who's so far past the proverbial edge that he's practically undead.

+ Brutal, gory action; great writing; exciting set-pieces and scripted Bullet-Time moments, + Stellar production values; compelling multiplayer modes

? Would Max Payne and Sam Fisher make great drinking buddies?

Killer Instinct Review

Killer Instinct is by and large a more than satisfying return for a fighting series that's been left on the shelf for far too long. As a modern fighting game, it manages to hold its own against more seasoned stablemates, thanks to its accessibility and hidden depths.
