There are small issues with the HD conversion – especially in the menus – but this still feels like one of the more accomplished HD collections this generation. Some people may want to pretend it only contains two games, though – and I understand that sentiment.

Some of DMC HD's content is far from classic, and there are undeniably rough edges. But as a package it offers two fighting games of exceptional quality, with Devil May Cry slick and stylish enough to overshadow its creaky camera, and Devil May Cry 3 still one of the genre's highpoints.

The black sheep of this collection, however, is DMC2. It essentially violates the very essence of what being Dante is all about. It's not very challenging, so it never really transitions into an interesting game.

I won't bother citing the "story" too much. Notice the quotes there? The narrative arc of the series is decent as these sorts of stories go. Still, a lot of it is definitely smile, nod, and get back to beating up demon spawn.

While most companies will wait to reboot a series at the beginning of the console cycle, things didn't work out that way with Capcom and the new DmC Devil May Cry (DmC). Instead, they are rebooting the series near the end of the current console generation.
