Apple iPhone X review
The iPhone X offers users a versatile, simple and powerful smartphone photography experience. Dual lenses give users zoom flexibility, the lighting effects present in Portrait mode are impressive, detail in video capture is excellent, and the beautiful display really makes photos and videos come to life on the device. Low light performance can be disappointing, though, and the new file formats aren't the friendliest for Windows users. Overall, the iPhone X is one of the most capable smartphone cameras on the market today.- General shooting in good light, photos of people, those looking for excellent video quality.
- Those who often take photos in very low light, power users who may want more flexibility than Apple's ecosystem and default apps allow
This iPhone XS predecessor is still a contender
iPhone X remains a winning evolution of the iPhone, and is worth a look -- if you can still find it on sale.- The iPhone X delivers a great blend of handheld comfort and a big, gorgeous 5.8-inch OLED screen. The rear-facing telephoto camera outshoots the iPhone 8 Plus in low light, and the front-facing camera snaps impressive portrait mode selfies. Face ID generally works fine.
- The iPhone X is harder to get following the release of the iPhone XS. The all-glass body means a case and an insurance plan are musts. Shorter battery life than iPhone 8 Plus.
Apple iPhone X
While the original iPhone had no viable competitor (the LG Prada was close, but no cigar), it managed to rewrite the rules of what modern smartphones should be.
iPhone X review: face the future
Works in progress can still be great
iPhone X review: Apple's Face ID vision for the future of iOS
Apple's iPhone X introduces the next decade of iOS. It pairs an advanced, full-face display with a strikingly beautiful glass and steel design. It invents new multitouch alternatives to the Home button and introduces an advanced TrueDepth 3D camera system, fast Face ID authentication and futuristic...
iPhone X Review: This changes everything
Over the past few years I've openly cheated on my iPhones with Android and, on few occasions, with Windows Phone. Moving forward, as much as a serial cellular cheater can, I can see myself being monogamous with the iPhone X.- New OLED display is beautiful
- Bezel-less design makes a big screen usable
- A11 Bionic processor is screaming-fast
- TrueDepth camera could be a game-changer
- It's expensive
- Face ID has a learning curve
- The 'notch
- Apple repairs are more expensive than any other iPhone
Review: iPhone X
The iPhone X is not the phone of the future. It could be, someday, if Apple's right about augmented reality and the power of a great camera. But for now, the iPhone X represents Apple's most ambitious attempt ever at making a phone absolutely seamless.- Gorgeous design
- Face ID is a great idea, mostly well executed
- Lots of cameras, all of them excellent
- It's faster and smoother than whatever phone you're using now
- A grand is a lot to spend on a phone
- Apple's love of simplicity sometimes makes everything more complicated
- Goodbye, stealthy phone-checking
Apple iPhone X
The iPhone X, rather like the original iPhone that launched 10 years ago (hence the use of the Roman numeral for 10 rather than the letter X), is...- Powerful processor
- Superb screen
- Impressive camera
- Excellent apps and features
- Beautiful design
- Lovely build quality
- The 'notch
- Pricey
Apple iPhone X
The iPhone X is Apple's 10th anniversary iPhone. Announced at the same time as the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus, but going on sale a little later, the device is Apple's flagship phone and features all of its latest camera technology.
The iPhone X is the most radical change to the iPhone formula ever, and despite some concerns, Apple has built a seriously impressive machine. We love its build quality and comfortable design, not to mention its expansive screen and great performance.
- Impeccable build quality
- Face ID generally works well
- Great performance
- Good main cameras get even better
- The lack of a home button takes some getting used to
- Not all apps use the whole screen
- Portrait selfies are hit-or-miss
- Battery life could be better
