iPhone 8 64GB

The iPhone X might be grabbing most of the headlines right now, but the iPhone 8 shouldn't be ignored. Released to the market within weeks of each other, it's the X's all-screen display and Face ID that have captured attention, but the features of the iPhone 8, available before the X, make it worth exploring in its own right.

Same processor, same software: The iPhone X boasts an A11 Bionic processor, and iOS 11 software. Pretty impressive, as you'd expect from this much talked-about iPhone release. But, just as impressively, the iPhone 8 also offers you that A11 Bionic processor, and iOS11 software. So, if that sort of high-level performance is what you demand from your iPhone, you can get it right now in the 8.

High Expectations Of The iOS 11

This operating system, with its new features and added performance capacity, promises a user-friendly and smarter experience for the consumer. Apple really is pushing the iOS as a major selling point in the iPhone 8, and indications are that this "rethought" OS is delivering.

Glass Design Equals Class Design

The iPhone 8 looks stunning, thanks to its "all-glass" design complemented by an aluminium band and striking finishes. All that glass is being described as "the most durable glass ever in a smartphone". If looks are important to you, the iPhone 8 won't disappoint.

And Looking Even Better

An all-new Retina HD display with a host of features to enhance attractiveness and functionality is another major talking point surrounding the iPhone 8 upon its release. One of the most prominent features is True Tone, which automatically adjusts the white balance to match the light in which ever environment you happen to be in, be it bright or shady. This promises easier viewing of the phone's display.

How Good Is The Camera?

It's an age-old question ever since the iPhone lifted the bar for smartphone cameras. After all, an iPhone is the world's most popular camera and any developments are embraced by eager buyers. Apple says the camera in the iPhone 8 is a "more advanced 12-megapixel camera", with a lot of the credit due to that A11 Bionic processor. The sensor is bigger and faster, with a new colour filter, deeper pixels and optical image stabilisation. As for portrait mode, it's new and improved with a sharper focus on the subject and more natural blurring of everything in the background.

Irresistible Resistant Qualities

A problem that has plagued smartphones of all makes over the years is water, splashes and dust. The makers of the iPhone 8 claim that this phone is "precision engineered at the microscopic level", to keep water and dust at bay.

Even More Efficient Wireless Charging

With its glass back, the iPhone 8 is primed for more efficient and easier wireless charging than before. The battery power is about the same as the iPhone 7, with the performance controller providing an all-important power boost when required.

Apple iPhone 8 (64GB, Black) - Excellent review

The iPhone 14 isn’t much of an upgrade over the iPhone 13, but it’s still a great device and an upgrade for anyone coming from the iPhone 11 or older.

Great camera, Good battery, Emergency features are cool, Still excellent performance

Used as demo Apple iPhone 8 64GB Gold (6 month warranty + 100% Genuine) review

The iPhone 8 might be the last of its kind, the last Apple smartphone with a home button and IPS display. If this is the case, the Americans at least gave us a very good final chapter. We once again miss major new features or innovations, but the iPhone 8 still beats its predecessor in many regards.

high build quality, True-Tone display, fast SoC, great camera, accurate GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, high Wi-Fi performance, many LTE bands, water and dust protection

storage cannot be expanded, only 12 months warranty, no stereo jack, only average speakers, display resolution could be higher, heavier than the predecessor, very limited NFC functionality

iPhone 8: Full, in-depth review

In an odd change of tune for Apple, the new iPhone 8 can’t really be said to be this year’s “best iPhone ever”. Sure, it’s got a better processor, quality-of-life improvements like wireless charging and an ever-so-slightly refined design. Unfortunately, with the futuristic, face-reading iPhone X just around the corner, the iPhone 8 feels a little overshadowed.

While it won’t inspire mania among the enthusiast crowd like the iPhone X will, the iPhone 8 remains a solid package for those happy to play things safe.

A11 Bionic Processor; Premium feel;

Camera feels mediocore by Apple's standards; Expensive;

The iPhone 8 anchors Apple's 2017 phone line, but it isn't where the future is.

Wireless charging., Powerful new processor.

Lacks the latest modem features and bands., Single camera is a disadvantage for AR., Not a huge upgrade over last year's model, which is still available.

Apple iPhone 8 (64GB, Black) - Excellent review

Not waterproof, and the batteries aren't replaceable, but hard to beat when it comes to cycling-suitable smartphones

iPhone 8 review

There are some great things about the iPhone 8 including the addition of wireless charging, 64GB storage as standard and a fast A11 Bionic processor. However, this all comes at a higher price and everything else is largely the same so we can't imagine or recommend iPhone 7 users upgrading. Those on an older device like an iPhone 6 or older will experience a much bigger change. Comparing the iPhone to Android rivals is difficult as many users will be on one side of the fence already. Forgetting about software, the iPhone 8 simply doesn't excite like flagship rivals including the Galaxy S8 and LG G6.

Used as demo Apple iPhone 8 64GB Gold (6 month warranty + 100% Genuine) review

The iPhone 8 is the best iPhone released to date because it has much better battery life, an improved camera and wireless charging – but it’s inherently boring. It has glass on the back, sure, but even without sticking it in a case it’s difficult to tell for the casual observer.

Pros: 24-hour-plus battery, great camera, wireless charging, fingerprint scanner, water resistant

Cons: 2014 design, boring, large bezels around the screen, no headphone jack, no fast-charger in the box, expensive

Apple launched the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus in September at the inaugural event held at the Steve Jobs theatre. Following Apple’s previous naming schemes for the iPhone, there’s an argument to suggest these devices should have been christened with the 7s moniker.
