iPhone 5s review

Adding an S to the previous year's new-shape iPhone is a pattern we've seen before, ever since the iPhone 3G turned 3GS in 2009. And once again in 2013 Apple evolved its existing iPhone platform, only this time the iPhone 5 split into two – a new flagship 5s and a more playful iPhone 5c in a range...

Fingerprint sensor; Two Tone camera flash; Slow-mo video; Faster than iPhone 5; Works with all 4G networks; Future-proof 64-bit chip; M7 chip

More expensive than the iPhone 5 was; Screen is small when compared to other high-end phones

Not my cup of tea.

I received this due to my work phone being upgraded, which was an old Nokia. I have dabbled in using windows phone and android phones also. The parts of the phone that I like are the touchid system, I never bother using a pin on my personal phone, but having the fingerprint reader is a nice touch...

Apple iPhone 5S review

The iPhone 5S is Apple's latest flagship smartphone, one that tweaks and enhances the iPhone 5. With almost all of 2013's smartphone models revealed - except for the Nexus 5 - this is where Apple sets out its stall for the next year.

Touch ID fingerprint sensor; A7 processor; M7 processor; better camera; universal 4G support; iOS 7 makes it a cleaner user experience; it just works

Screen still feels small; screen res remains average; no NFC; iCloud still a mess; day one and the 5S feels no different from iPhone 5; optional cases grate with the 5S concept

iPhone 5S review

The iPhone 5S is another winner from Apple, with its Touch ID fingerprint scanner for security, improved camera features and in-built motion coprocessor. However, those impressed by the current crop of large-screen smartphones or looking for an overhaul of the Apple smartphone rather than a few...

Touch ID fingerprint scanner; improved camera features; M7 coprocessor

Expensive; similar to previous iPhones

The basics The Apple iPhone 5s is here at last, ready to stake its claim once again as the greatest smartphone on the planet. Things are a little different this year though - and it's not just because there are bigger and better Android blowers out there.

The iPhone 5s is a beautiful device - but you already knew this; It always has been, and this year's flagship model is no different; In fact, it's almost identical to the iPhone 5: it's compact, light and polished, and the four-inch Retina Display is vivid and dangerously sharp.

If you've got an iPhone 5, the 5s will throw few surprises your way; Very few; Too few: it's identically sized, for one thing, so the screen remains as cramped as ever; While plenty of people prefer displays you can reach across with one finger or thumb, it would be nice for Apple to get with the...

iPhone 5s review

A great phone and a deceptively big step forward for Apple, but the iPhone 5s doesn't leap quite as far as we had hoped

iOS lives up to the hype; Truly beautifully hardware; An unbeatable App Store

Screen feels increasingly small; Lacks the liveliness of Android; Currently few ways to use the extra grunt

iPhone 5S

By smartphone standards the iPhone 5S is outright ancient. First released in 2013, with the rumoured approach of Apple's fabled iPhone 6S on the horizon, the iPhone 5S is close to becoming two phone generations old.

Touch ID works perfectly; Excellent performance; Great all-round camera; Very light and comfortable in one hand

Battery life could be better; 4-inch screen too small for some; Extra storage cost

iPhone 5s review

Apple introduces Touch ID and beefs up the internal specs of the iPhone, but the fundamental design of its predecessor is retained. The 5s is one of the best performing handsets on the market, but is not the best value.

Touch ID works; Smooth performance; iOS 7; Great camera

Fragile chassis; 4in feels cramped at times; Expensive
