The iPhone 12 Pro is a premium smartphone, complete with medical-grade stainless steel frame, an upgraded LiDAR sensor and the ability to record [email protected] Dolby Vision HDR video, but with so many similarities to the standard iPhone 12, it's not a cut-and-dry recommendation.
Premium build, Bigger display than last year, [email protected] Dolby Vision video support
Very similar to iPhone 12, Expensive, Standard 60Hz refresh rate
An iPhone for the few and not the many, the 12 Pro is for serious photographic fiddlers and AR experimenters

Display refresh rate only 60Hz; Mixed battery life; No USB-C; No earphones or charging plug
The iPhone 12 Pro captures images with bags of impact and plenty of detail, even in low light. Any photographer who uses it is bound to experience one of those head-scratching moments when the phone gets a better shot than their larger-sensor camera.
Produced attractive images with impact; Easy to use; Great wide-angle capability
Limited control in the native camera app; High price; The lenses are unprotected

If you're a serious creative who doesn't want a huge phone, the iPhone 12 Pro packs superior imaging and video capability into a reasonably sized, beautifully designed body.
Excellent night photo capabilities; Optical zoom camera; iOS has the best third-party photo apps; Beautiful design; Solid battery life
Technically only 2x optical zoom camera; AT&T and Verizon 5G underwhelms; Charging and power adapter situation is confusing
I'm going to make this brief. Of the four models in the iPhone 12 lineup, the iPhone 12 Pro looks like the top value if you're serious about photography and video. The 12 Pro's LiDAR sensor, Night Portrait mode, and telephoto lens aren't available on the lower-cost models, and will be worth the extra $150 (using the 128GB models' pricing) for those whom their iPhone is a camera first and foremost. There are four very similar models in the iPhone 12 lineup: the iPhone 12 mini (starts at $699 for 64GB), the iPhone 12 (starts at $799 for 64GB), the iPhone 12 Pro (starts at $999 for 128GB) and the iPhone 12 Pro Max (starts at $1,099 for 128GB). This short piece will give you a quick sketch of how the iPhone 12 Pro differs from the iPhone 12 and why we've designated it as our Editors' Choice. We've wrapped a deeper discussion of all four models into our main iPhone 12 review because they have so much in common. That's where you can read in depth about all the iPhone 12 features. The 12...

You must have telephoto. If you're choosing between the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro, the addition of a telephoto lens is what will likely sell you on the extra money. Lidar and a stainless steel frame are bonuses, but likely not worth the extra cash. You love the Pro's matte glass back.
Superb performance, Consistently good photo and video quality, Improved industrial design
Worse battery life than iPhone 11 Pro
Let’s cut to the chase in this review. The new iPhone 12 Pro is an absolute joy to hold and use. The OLED display is stunning for consuming media on – you’ll notice it immediately if you’re moving up from a non-OLED Model, as I was. The cameras… well, we’ll get to that.
Beautiful design; stunning display; and high-quality cameras.
