The Apple Beat: iPad mini slowly but surely rules the roost

Two months down the line and the iPad mini has been elevated as my go-to tablet of choice, which is surprising for someone who relies on the larger iPad for so many things.

Jobs dismissed 7-inch tabs as tweeners. We differ If Steve Jobs was still around we wonder if the iPhone would have ever gone beyond the 3.5-inch screen and the iPad downsized from its original beefy 9.7-inch form factor.

Review: Apple's Retina iPad mini is the small tablet we wanted a year ago

You needed to know two things about the first iPad mini. The first thing is that it was, well, mini -it was a 7.9-inch tablet from a company whose CEO once said that users would have to sandpaper their fingers down to comfortably use anything smaller than a full-size iPad.
Pros:
  • Retina display resolves all of our gripes with the old mini's screen
  • A7 SoC blows the old mini's A5 out of the water and nearly runs as quickly as the version in the iPad Air
  • Great battery life
  • and the battery charges more quickly if you use the included 10W adapter
  • Nice Wi-Fi upgrade
  • although...
Cons:
  • iOS 7 is still a little rough around the edges on this and every iPad
  • Air gap between glass and LCD keeps screen from being as good as it could be
  • Features like Touch ID will have to wait until next year at the earliest
  • Scattered reports indicate that some screens may suffer from image retention...

Apple iPad mini with Retina Display: Reviewed

When I concluded our iPad Air review I assumed the iPad mini with Retina Display was a true no-compromise, smaller alternative to the iPad Air. In many senses that's true. Wireless connectivity is identical between the models, battery life is pretty much the same as well.

Dear-ly beloved: Apple's costly iPad Mini with Retina Display

Review Last year's iPad Mini really was playing second fiddle to the regular iPad. Not merely smaller than its sibling, the Mini had a much lower resolution display. It had a less powerful processor too. It felt like a product Apple was obliged to make rather than one it actually wanted to.

Listen, I don't have the greatest history when it comes to tablet relationships. We have… a checkered past . I was pitched on this fabled third device long ago, but I can't help but feel that we've all been hoodwinked.

Apple iPad Mini 2 (Retina Display) Review

The iPad Mini with Retina display is essentially the same iPad Mini we used to know and love. It's just faster and better. The improvements are exactly where we wanted them. Our only complaint is that Apple priced it way higher than we expected (almost 20-25% from the previous version) putting it in...
Pros:
  • * Great display quality
  • * Great performance
  • * Long battery life
  • * Impressive design and profile

Introduction Apple had introduced the original iPad Mini without the RETINA display and that pretty much confirmed that the second generation of Apple iPad Mini would come with the RETINA display.
Pros:
  • Excellent Build Quality and Premium Finish
  • Lot of tablet specific applications
  • Top notch performance
  • Excellent battery life
Cons:
  • On the expensive side
  • Lack of expandable storage
  • Camera lacks flash and isn't great for lowlight performance
  • iOS 7 feels boring and same throughout

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 vs iPad mini 2

It's difficult to decide which tablet is best without having both devices in our lab for thorough testing. I am an Android user, and would take the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4's larger, higher-resolution screen, more compact size and weight, potentially faster performance, micro-USB port, better...
