Pull it off the shelf at the Apple Store, and you'd be hard-pressed by sight alone to distinguish the new sixth-generation 9.7-inch iPad from last year's model . And under the hood, it's not much different, where there's simply a speedier A10 processor. The new iPad is, well, an iPad.
- Apple Pencil adds versatility
- A10 chip brings better performance
- iPad Pro 'feel' for low price
- No Smart Connector

Apple iPad 9.7-inch (2018) Review

iPad 9.7 (2018) review
The iPad 9.7 is a great tablet for those that want just that: a tablet. It's short of the power and performance of the iPad Pro range, but the addition of Apple Pencil compatibility and the A10 chipset bring it pretty close, and for a lot less cash. It irks that you need to buy the Pencil separately to unlock a key feature, and design-wise we're seeing something pretty old-school here… but for the price it's hard to criticize too much, and this is still one of the best tablets on the market.- More affordable
- Good screen quality
- Powerful for the price
- Apple Pencil costs extra
- Design unchanged
Once again, Apple has squeezed a bunch of components from past iOS devices -- the processor from the iPhone 7, the Pencil-friendly touch sensor from the first iPad Pro -- into a familiar body.
Apple iPad 2018
Apple's newest 2018 iPad is basically the 2017 model with a faster processor and support for the Apple Pencil , a pricey stylus that lets you draw on the screen with remarkable accuracy. It's the same price as last year's model, too, starting at $329, £319 or AU$469 for the 32GB model.- The 2018 entry-level iPad supports the Apple Pencil for art work and annotation, and adds a faster A10 processor
- iOS continues to offer the best overall selection of free and paid apps on affordable tablets
- Lacks the bigger, better screen, quad speakers and Smart Connector found on pricier iPad Pros
- The Pencil, case and keyboard add-ons will bring the price up to laptop level
Apple iPad (2012) - Three Steps Forward, One Step Back
Apple's third generation iPad comes with several new features such as a Retina display, A5X processor with quad-core graphics and a 5-megapixel rear camera with advanced optics. Can Apple maintain its lead over the other Android tablets this year? Let's find out.- Gorgeous display with 2,048 x 1,536 pixels
- Better camera performance
- Competitive price points
- Heavier than its predecessor
- Heats up easily
- Low battery mileage when brightness level is at its highest
Review: Apple iPad (2017)
Here's an interesting fact for you: if you take the iPad mini out of the equation, Apple's sales of larger iPads actually rose last quarter. The release of the iPad Pro 9.7 coupled with the enduring popularity of the iPad Air 2 meant that, far from being in decline, the iPad was on the up.

- It's fast
- Supports Apple Pencil
- No smart connector
- Speakers only on the bottom
- Not quite ready to replace your laptop
Apple New iPad
Apple just made the new iPad official and it comes with a Retina Display that goes up to 2048 x 1536 resolution with a pixel density of 264ppi. Apple's existing apps will be scaled up to the high-res display and will be encouraging developers to do the same- + Retina Display
- + Tried and true design
- + Good Battery life
- - No LTE for most of us
- - No major changes
