Apple iPad 2018
Apple's newest 2018 iPad is basically the 2017 model with a faster processor and support for the Apple Pencil , a pricey stylus that lets you draw on the screen with remarkable accuracy. It's the same price as last year's model, too, starting at $329, £319 or AU$469 for the 32GB model.
Pros:
- The 2018 entry-level iPad supports the Apple Pencil for art work and annotation, and adds a faster A10 processor
- iOS continues to offer the best overall selection of free and paid apps on affordable tablets
Cons:
- Lacks the bigger, better screen, quad speakers and Smart Connector found on pricier iPad Pros
- The Pencil, case and keyboard add-ons will bring the price up to laptop level

Once again, Apple has squeezed a bunch of components from past iOS devices -- the processor from the iPhone 7, the Pencil-friendly touch sensor from the first iPad Pro -- into a familiar body.

Great Tablet!
The screen is bright and displays crisp details. The battery is average and can last for about 5 days of normal usage. The loudspeaker and the microphone is good. The aluminium back and glass panel on the front give it a good build quality and hefty feel.
Pros:
- Screen
- Text input
- Browsing the Internet
- Camera is great
- Smooth performance
- no lag at all
Cons:
- Average battery life

Apple Retina iPad mini
Sometimes it's the little things. Introduced in late 2012, the iPad mini was as slow as the iPad 2 (which was then almost two years old). It didn't have the gorgeous Retina display that Apple had added to the iPad earlier in the year.
Pros:
- High-resolution Retina display
- same A7 processor as iPad Air, High-resolution Retina display
- same A7 processor as iPad Air
Cons:
- Camera not as good as on iPhones
- no Touch ID fingerprint detector, Camera not as good as on iPhones
- no Touch ID fingerprint detector

In our review of Apple's original iPad mini last year, we remarked that its exceptional iOS app catalogue, outstanding build quality and super light weight were only let down by a mediocre screen.
Pros:
- Excellent battery life
- Retina screen a big upgrade
- Fast
- snappy performance
Cons:
- More expensive than predecessor
- Screen can't match iPad Air

Despite the powerful internals laying inside the iPad mini’s aluminium shell, I found battery life to be impressive. In my time with the tablet, the 23.8 watt-hour (Wh) only needed charging twice with a decent amount of use each day over a week or so: a fantastic result for a mid-sized tablet with...

- iOS has by far the best selection of tablet apps going around

iPad mini 2 with Retina display review
Update: While it doesn't tote the same Touch ID goods as the latest iPad Mini 4 , the Mini 2 still got a hearty update with the arrival of iOS 9.3. Night Shift brings intelligent color temperature-shifting tech to the iPad Mini 2.

It's hard not to compare this fifth-generation iPad to the tablets that came before it as it's essentially a hodgepodge of hardware and components Apple already had lying around with the latest iOS software slapped on top. But a Frankenstein's monster this is not.
Pros:
- Respectable battery life
- Sturdy and lightweight
- Beautiful design
- Affordable
